Israel to send rescue team to earthquake-struck Haiti
The Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday that a rescue team would leave immediately for disaster-stricken Haiti, which was hit Tuesday by the worst earthquake the area has known in the last 200 years.

The airport in the city has been closed since the 7.0 quake hit on Tuesday evening, but the Foriegn Ministry decided to send the team with the hope that they would be able to land by the time they arrive.

Israeli ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Amos Radian, is scheduled to join the rescue team whose purpose is to gauge the best way Israel can assist with the crisis and decide on the most immediate needs.

Top Israel Defense Forces officers and delegates from relevant services convened for an emergency session first thing in the morning to discuss sending aide.

They also considered sending a field hospital, including doctors and medical equipment, as well as humanitarian aid such as food supplies and tents for those who have remained homeless.

4. If a country had to be saintly to have the right to give assistance to Haiti...
Haiti would be waiting for a long time for any help.

I hope it gets as much help as possible.

5. I tend to agree. I have many criticisms of Israel, but sending aid to Haiti is not one of them
I'm sure the United States, China and probably Saudi Arabia and Cuba are also sending aid to Haiti. No doubt trying to put forward some positive PR is a major part of the motivations in any country sending aid anywhere. But, whatever the motivations of any country sending aid, Haiti needs all the aid they can get as fast as they can get it.
