Egypt police seize explosives destined for Gaza
RAFAH, Egypt — Egyptian police seized more than three tonnes of explosives set to be smuggled into the neighbouring Palestinian Gaza Strip, a security official said on Wednesday.

Security officers found the TNT on Tuesday concealed in 79 large bags in Sarsuriya district near the Rafah border crossing with Gaza, the official said.

Residents had tipped off police about the 3.5-tonne cache, which had been prepared for smuggling through one of the many underground tunnels linking Gaza with Egypt.

Cairo has stepped up its efforts to close the tunnels, which are mainly used to send food and other goods to the impoverished Palestinian enclave, under blockade since the Islamist Hamas movement took it over in 2007.

3. Does anyone find this surprising.
Hamas as well as other resistance groups are fighting a military occupation and in the case of Gaza a brutal and inhumane siege.

There is a myth propagated by Israel and the US I might add that there are two Palestines, one in the West Bank and one in Gaza. The truth is that Hamas supporters live in the West Bank (18% membership), as well as in Gaza (25% membership). The stats quoted come from a Palestinian rights group. Fatah is well represented by larger majorities in both places. Indeed, among the 1.400 Palestinians killed in Gaza last year, in all likelihood there were more Fatah supporters than Hamas supporters.

The truth is that they are all Palestinians fighting for freedom and self-determination. The Hamas phenomenon is just a passing red herring used by Israel and our State Department to scapegoat the Palestinians for lack of peace.

THe world turned upside sidedown: the perpetrator becomes the victim and the victim, the perpetrator.
