Israel to approve 30,000 housing units on occupied land
azzal: Israel to approve 30,000 housing units on occupied land

Ramallah - Ma'an - Israeli authorities aim to approve the construction of a 30,000 housing unit for religious Israelis in the industrial area of Atarot and Qalandiya, after excavating the site, follow-up director of the popular committee against the wall and settlements said Tuesday.

Mohammad Nazzal said the plan was uncovered by an Israeli journalist, who detailed his findings on Israeli TV. The decision, Nazzal said, was reached between the Israeli Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barakat and Members of Knesset.

The new plan is a renewed attempt to "Judaize" Jerusalem and strip Palestinians of their rights in Jerusalem and the West Bank, Nazzal asserted.

Atarot, near the West Bank village of Ramallah, is an Israeli industrial site in occupied East Jerusalem. The Israeli government exercises its authority in the area, despite lacking legal sovereignty over it.

On Tuesday, the Israeli mayor of Jerusalem delayed a plan that would demolish dozens of Palestinian homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan to make way for a park and tourist attraction.

2. A question for anyone who's been to Jerusalem and knows where places are there...
Is Silwan or the other places mentioned close to Al Quds? I know that was an outlying part of East Jerusalem that was offered by Barak to the Palestinians as their future capital...

3. Good questions! These places are hardly on the edge of Jerusalem!
I can't copy graphics like Doug. Go to google maps and type in atarot, West Bank. This is on the edge of Qalandia REFUGEE CAMP (on the edge of Ramallah) for christ's sake.

It's instructive to see how Ramallah is surrounded with Pisgat's, Maale's and Ze'evs. Nothing like an old-fashioned map to help everyone understand that there will never be 2 independent states in this spot as big as a New Jersey County.
