Israeli army admits lying over air raid
The Israeli army has acknowledged in a rare admission of guilt that it lied over an air raid that left 12 Palestinians dead.

Contrary to earlier claims that it had only used Hellfire missile in a raid at the crowded Nusseirat refugee camp in Gaza, the Israeli army on Wednesday finally admitted using far deadlier weapons in the raid on 20 October.

"Perhaps due to the operation and security sensitivity before our eyes, we erred in the way in which we chose to describe the means of operation," a military spokesman said.

But he still did not specify the weapon that was used.

3. The PA still claims
that they know nothing about suicide bombers attacking Israeli citizens with bombs packed with nails and shrapnal to mortally wound and maim for life intentionally as many innocent civilians as possible.

Did anyone call this a lie?

5. The issues
Do you call the issue truthfulness in military disclosure? I think that 99% of the nations who have every engaged in military conflict will withold information. Why should Israel be the one stimatized for it?

7. 99% of militaries
don't do that in the first place, especially when there are civilians involved...

8. Look at history
oh my, what a statement. No civilians were bombed in WWII, you are saying. Nothing happened when two atomic bombs were dropped. No one knew what the results would be.

14. The world has changed since WWII...
What was done then to civilian populations wouldn't be acceptable now. But back then neither side particulary worried about civilians. I'm not aware that there was any military dishonesty about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Care to fill me in?

I'm not up on what missiles are the nastiest and that sort of stuff, but it appears to me that claiming to use a missile that wasn't used is dishonesty. A better option would have been not to say what sort of missile was used...

16. Gimel
is there anything the Israeli army does that you don't make excuses for?

Even when they admit to lying, you still make excuses!

2. Probably testing a new weapon of US design
I have it from reliable sources that US arms dealers in international arms shows brag about the fact that their weaponry has been tested "in field combat," which they admit, under their breath, means primarily in the Territories.

6. probably flechette rounds...
I'd lie about firing flechette rounds into a crowd of civilians also. Especially if melodramatic, hair-pulling over, "suicide bombers attacking Israeli citizens with bombs packed with nails and shrapnal to mortally wound and maim for life intentionally as many innocent civilians as possible." is to be taken seriously.

9. Interesting how history repeats itself
During the terror bombing of Beirut, Israeli Military Industries (Ta'as) actually ran ads in Aviation Week showing planes dropping bombs. Headline:

"Bombs you can count on to do what they're supposed to do. That's the only kind of bomb we make."

(Ma'ariv, 1982, cited in Fateful Triangle)

The Israeli reporter who wrote about this was appalled apparently.

10. Something I've never really investigated is the Israeli arms industry
Apparently there are 80-90 corporations manufacturing armaments in Israel. Anybody know of a good (non-specialist) source for information?

If the 80-90 figure I heard is true, and the arms budget is colossal as it seems to be, it would seem this issue deserves some study.

11. Plenty of basic info on the web
Try these:

http://fas.org/index.html
http://www.tau.ac.il/jcss/

You can get a lot from the latter.
