Hamas, on anniversary of Intifada, urges armed struggle
Gaza City/Tel Aviv(dpa) - Hamas marked the 10th anniversary of the second Palestinian uprising on Tuesday with a call for continued armed struggle against Israel - and for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to abandon peace talks with the Jewish state.

'This anniversary, and after 10 years, the Hamas movement still stands by resistance and still defends the national principles that were abandoned by the Palestinian negotiators,' said a spokesman of the radical Islamist movement ruling Gaza, Ismail Radwan.

'This anniversary, we tell the negotiators; return to the mood of the people, who reject these negotiations, which encourage the enemy to commit more crimes against our people,' he told the German Press-Agency dpa.

The uprising, or Intifada, erupted following a deadlock in peace talks on September 28, 2000, with Palestinians rioting in Jerusalem against Israeli security forces.
