A panel appointed by the United Nations' Human Rights Council investigating the deaths of nine Turkish activists aboard a Gaza-bound aid ship in May said Tuesday that Israel was suppressing footage its soldiers seized from the boat's passengers.
The UN-appointed panel of experts said Israeli soldiers confiscated still photos and video footage from more than two dozen journalists and others aboard the flotilla during the raid May 31 in which nine pro-Palestinian activists were killed.
The commandos are briefed on the deck of a naval ship before boarding the flotilla.
Karl T. Hudson-Phillips, a former judge on the International Criminal Court, told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday that Israel appeared to be trying to control information and to maintain monopoly over information on what had happened.
Last Week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the UN report on the Gaza flotilla raid biased and distorted, claiming that the UN Human Rights Council was "obsessed with targeting Israel."
