'53% of Israelis say Arabs should be encouraged to leave'
Israel Democracy Institute poll shows only 51% think Arabs, Jews deserve equal rights; Israel ranked least-stable democracy in the world.

The government should encourage Arabs to emigrate, 53 percent of Jewish Israelis say, according to the Israel Democracy Institute’s Israeli Democracy Ranking and poll released on Tuesday.

Only 51% said Jews and Arabs should have equal rights.

The more religious respondents were, the less they believed Arabs should have equal rights, with 33.5% of secular Jews opposing equal rights for Arabs, as opposed to 51% of traditional Jews, 65% of the modern-Orthodox and 72% of haredim.

In addition, 86% of Jewish Israelis said that important decisions should be made by a Jewish majority.

The institute’s findings were presented to President Shimon Peres, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman and Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch.

Nearly half (46%) of Jewish Israelis polled said they would not want to live near Arabs, and 39% would be opposed to living near foreign workers or people with mental illness.

One-fourth would not want to live near a homosexual couple, and 23% opposed having haredi neighbors.

1. That pretty well confirms everything I've suspected for quite a few years. (NT)

3. A similar proportion of Brits think that 'immigrants' should be encouraged to leave.
Prejudice and xenophobia are everywhere, and nasty.

But as Arabs in Israel were mostly born in Israel (like their ancestors before them), where are they expected to go?!

Also, Israelis have their own version of the Religious Right, which is harming their country badly.

5. Well, a lot of them wouldn't lose sleep about Scotland or Wales going independent
but that's mainly because they think it would mean an England-only UK would have a permanent Tory majority in politics.

8. There are quite a number who would at any rate like an 'English Parliament' to dilute the influence
of the other regions of the country.

Anti-Irish prejudice is fairly common in England, and anti-Scottish and anti-Welsh prejudice certainly exists.

On the other side, there are parts of Scotland and Wales where English 'immigrants' are very unpopular.

6. In Denmark, they'll pay to make Muslim immigrants leave
Denmark is boosting cash incentives to entice immigrants to return to their homelands if they 'can't or won't' assimilate into society.
The offer now on the table is close to £12,000 for every person who takes up the offer to leave.
Critics of the measure say it sends the wrong message to foreigners but the centre-right government in Copenhagen is forging ahead with the plan.
The financial carrot is ten times more than that previously offered under a scheme which as been law since 1997.

7. And the Daily Mail and similar influential papers would love to see the UK do the same...
though they might not limit it to Muslims!
