Jewish housing in E. Jerusalem gets panel’s backing

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Jerusalem's planning commission approved the construction of 124 apartments in two Jewish eastern Jerusalem neighborhoods located over the Green Line.

The approvals issued Monday are for 92 apartments in a 12-story building in the Talipiot East neighborhood and 32 apartments in four buildings in Pisgat Zeev East

Meanwhile, the committee is expected to approve a plan next week to build 1,400 homes in Gilo, a Jewish neighborhood located over the Green Line in southwest Jerusalem. The plan will come before the commission on Jan. 24, according to reports.

"This is a confirmation of the death of the peace process," Jerusalem Council member Meir Margalit of the Meretz Party told Army Radio on Sunday.

3. Ish. If Barack had gone a little further at Camp David, it might well have worked.

But I don't think there's been a serious attempt at peace on the Israeli side since then. The nearest thing was probably Olmert's desperate offer in his dying days. And there was a period between the death of Arafat and Abbas shoring up his power when the old Israeli cry of "we don't have a partner" was actually true.

When it comes to peace I don't see it working out primarily because in these sorts of things people have taken sides pretty strongly.

If you have taken up the Palestinian cause, I see a great demand for sacrifices being made on the part of the Israeli's without consideration for the Israeli's or similar demands of the Palestinians.

Likewise those being pro-Israel want a whole host of concessions from the Palestinians without giving an inch themselves.

Honestly however I don't see any acceptable "peace plan" that could be tolerated by both sides at the same time.
