What has failed in Palestine, will fail in Iraq
http://electroniciraq.net/news/1219.shtml

Just as many senior Israeli military officials are openly criticizing their government's tactics in the occupied Palestinian territories, the United States is repeating in Iraq many of Israel's worst mistakes. This will doom efforts to stabilize Iraq and restore its independence.

"In a tactic reminiscent of Israeli crackdowns in the West Bank and Gaza," reported the Detroit Free Press on November 18, "the U.S. military has begun destroying the homes of suspected guerrilla fighters in Iraq's Sunni Triangle, evacuating women and children, then leveling their houses with heavy weaponry...Family members at one of the houses, in the village of al Haweda, said they were given five minutes to evacuate before soldiers opened fire."

This is precisely the tactic for which human rights organizations and even the U.S. government have repeatedly condemned Israel.

Americans should be alarmed that their government is seeking advice on how to run the occupation of Iraq from an Israel whose bloody methods have not only failed for thirty-six years to bring "security" and end resistance to the occupation of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza Strip, but have been often condemned by human rights organizations such as Amnesty International as "war crimes."

1. Depends on how you define failure

In Palestine, child malnutrition levels reached Congo percentages months ago. 6% or so of Palestinian infants now have malnutrition-related brain damage. The economy is destroyed, almost the entire population is now dependent on aid groups for food. Most groups that were providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians have been declared "terrorists." UNRWA and the Red Cross are discontinuing their aid programs. Every day, more homes are destroyed, more children maimed, more people killed. Gaza has been converted into a giant concentration camp, and plans to do the same with the rest of Palestine are well under way.

In Iraq, 12 years of sanctions have netted child malnutrition levels above 20%. The impending US-mandated termination of the UN food program will double, if not triple that number in a matter of months.
Since the invasion, fewer Iraqis have access to water, electricity or medical care even than under sanctions, during which time untold millions of Iraqi children died of treatable and preventable diseases.
Iraq's economy is destroyed, those who under sanctions, had to try to survive on a few dollars a month now have zero dollars a month, although many have fewer mouths to feed as a result of routine bombings and general population reduction operations.

Halliburton is doing great. So are the defense companies. Business is booming at McDonnell-Douglas, and Caterpillar is making a whole new line of remote-controlled bulldozers to help the IDF destroy more Palestinian homes.

In short, thousands of Muslims have been and continue to be slaughtered, and bush and sharon regime henchmen are making money hand over fist.

So what's the failure?

2. Good point
Didn't Ariel Sharon call it a "great success" after he ordered a terrorist attack on a Palestinian apartment building several months ago?
