Antiwar Group Exposes Undercover Activist
An outspoken member of Harvard Students for Israel went undercover in what he says was a quest to gauge anti-Semitism in a campus anti-war group.

Members of the Harvard Initiative for Peace and Justice (HIPJ) discovered last week that mysterious anti-Semitic posts on the group’s web log were written by Eric R. Trager ’05, who posted them under an assumed name.

Trager said yesterday that he was responsible for the posts in question, but said they were part of his larger effort to monitor anti-Semitism on campus...

Trager, a government concentrator in Kirkland House, said HIPJ’s quick response to the Cooper posts signaled a positive trend in relations between pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian activists on campus. “I was very pleased that they did erase it,” Trager said. “It indicates the progress that HSI and HIPJ have made in discussions. HIPJ is making an apparent effort to fight anti-Semitism on campus.”

11. How do you know he's a Republican?
Many pro-Israelis hate the Republican party. The only reason why they consider voting for them is because of Israel.

5. No...
While I'm sure this sort of thing happens a fair bit on US college campuses and stuff, and is caused by the over-zealous views of some folk, I don't think it goes on in real life outside mailing groups and stuff. Anti-semitism is a problem, the same as all other forms of bigotry are, and I think it's really important to recognise that just because there are a few sad folk who cry wolf, there are many others who are victims of anti-semitism, and indeed folk who agree with the views expressed by this guy, even if he himself was saying that stuff to make others look bad...

Violet...

7. How about "anti-palestinianism"...
There! I coined a new phrase. "Anti-palestiniansim"...kinda catchy.
How about "anti-everything" that doesn't agree with my messianic
views...? Nah...

8. This is the most common strategy to discredit a group
or point of view one finds inconvenient. It's common
as dirt, and has a long and illustrious history.

9. Quite true....and remember that the FBI is currently....
"infiltrating" anti-war organizations exactly for that purpose.
They need to have "instigators" that will create a situation where
the police are "justified" in using force. Pathetic.

10. Interesting.
Perhaps one from the Peace and Justice group should go undercover and say tons of anti-Arab comments on their listserve to see if they have any integrity. I would be angry if I was in that Peace and Justice group right now, but I think it's sort of funny looking at it from the outside. LOL.

I do think it's possible that if the Peace and Justice group tolerated anti-semitic comments before, and caught the activist this time, that they might have been erasing the posts for their own image's sake. I hope that this isn't the case though.
