Israel's wedge leaves physical, emotional scars
January 13, 2004

BY RAVI NESSMAN

http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-meast13.html

ABU DIS, West Bank -- With the thud of tons of concrete hitting soft earth, Israel worked Monday to build a 25-foot-tall wall on the edge of Jerusalem, signaling Israel's encirclement of the city is becoming permanent.

The wall, running down the center of a main road in the Palestinian neighborhood of Abu Dis, separates thousands of residents from Jerusalem, a city they consider home.

The towering new wall replaces a far shorter divider that had slowed, but not stopped, the flow of people and goods between the West Bank and Jerusalem in this area.

snip --

Along its path, the barrier has cut Palestinians off from their fields and schools, their hospitals and businesses.

But in Abu Dis, a suburb in the shadow of Jerusalem's Mount of Olives, the new wall strikes far deeper emotional chords

cut --

new name for "Peace Fence",.. Wedge wall of physical, emotional scars .

7. Warsaw Ghetto?
My friend, this is not about the Shoah; apparently, history isn't being taught somewhere because an education would easily afford anyone the understanding of the complex yet total differences involved.

18. Honest Question
If the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto had been able to rig themselves with explosives, would you have blamed them for using the same tactics on the Nazi occupiers? Please don't retreat into "complexities," aka the Weasel Zone.

10. The Warsaw ghetto was built to keep victims IN.
The Wedgie Wall is being built to keep perpetrators OUT.

I hope that clarifies the difference.

3. Interesting op-ed:
Certainly a distortion, but that's why it's an article rather than hard news.

5. The Great Wall analogy
Scurrilous deserves credit for making the analogy but I will carry on his work. Much like the Great Wall of China, the Peace Fence is designed to protect Israelis from the barbarous invasion of terror bombers and the monsters who support them.

19. Wrong
But unsurprising.

When you build a fence to keep out psychopathic murderers like that crazy scumbag of the other day, then you are doing good work to save lives.

21. Sharon is the Master Terrorist
The Israeli Occupation Forces exist to terrorize the Palestinians. Some of them admit it, some don't. Terror is as terror does, Muddled. Palestinians live in constant, dehumanizing terror that would drive most people insane. They are subject to random extreme violence at the hand of the occupation forces and sadistic settlers, who have no scruples at harrassing Palestinian schoolchildren. If you don't believe me, try to go live near one of these settler garrisons.

23. Look to Arafat
The master a creator of terrorism and the Palestinian situation. Look to the broken Oslo Accords, interrupted by Palestinians terrorism. Look at the rejected Camp David Peace offer and the continuing terror. Arafat called the Intifada. He was afraid that the people would reject the peace offer.

Arafat is not worthy to be called a leader. A leader leads the people to a better life by showing the way. Where would we have been without the courage of Rabin? Without the leadership of Moses, who shaped and molded the Hebrews in the desert? Without his leadership, we would have never reached the Promised Land. We would not have received the gift of the Law, the 10 Commandments.

Arafat is a failure, and his people should reject him. However, he only cares for their adoration.

With a spiritual leader like Yassin, one really wonders.

Terrorist Group Profiles

Kach and Kahane Chai
From: Patterns of Global Terrorism, 2002. United States Department of State, April 2003.

Description
Stated goal is to restore the biblical state of Israel. Kach (founded by radical Israeli-American rabbi Meir Kahane) and its offshoot Kahane Chai, which means “Kahane Lives,” (founded by Meir Kahane’s son Binyamin following his father’s assassination in the United States) were declared to be terrorist organizations in March 1994 by the Israeli Cabinet under the 1948 Terrorism Law. This followed the groups’ statements in support of Dr. Baruch Goldstein’s attack in February 1994 on the al-Ibrahimi Mosque—Goldstein was affiliated with Kach—and their verbal attacks on the Israeli Government. Palestinian gunmen killed Binyamin Kahane and his wife in a drive-by shooting in December 2000 in the West Bank.

Activities
The group has organized protests against the Israeli Government and has harassed and threatened Palestinians in the West Bank. Kach members have threatened to attack Arabs, Palestinians, and Israeli Government officials. Has vowed revenge for the death of Binyamin Kahane and his wife. Suspected of involvement in a number of low-level attacks since the start of the al-Aqsa intifadah.

Strength
Unknown.

Location/Area of Operation
Israel and West Bank settlements, particularly Qiryat Arba’ in Hebron.

External Aid
Receives support from sympathizers in the United States and Europe.

22. In what way?
It only works against the Palestinians and against peace. No self-defense involved.

The suicide and homicide is both illegal and immoral. This horrible crime against all of humanity must be put to an end. Even if it takes walling out the Palestinians from Israel for 3 generations.
