"Israeli troops trying to dismantle a West Bank settlement outpost scuffled Tuesday with dozens of settler activists, police said.

Earlier in the day, Israel's Supreme Court rejected a settler petition to block the evacuation. Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz has ordered several outposts demolished, in line with Israel's obligations under the U.S.-backed "road map" peace plan. Israel has to dismantle dozens of outposts, established by settlers in recent years to try to thwart land-for-peace agreements with the Palestinians.

The outpost targeted for evacuation Tuesday was West Tapuah, near the Kfar Tapuah settlement, considered one of the most militant in the West Bank. The outposts consists of three buildings and a synagogue in a large, barn-like structure.

Scuffles broke out between Israeli security forces and about 150 settler activists, including followers of the anti-Arab Kach movement, Israel Radio said."
