Hizb Allah leader says Israel tortured him
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/EC01FA53-F114-44AF-89F9-75903CB8008F.htm

<snip>

"Prominent Hizb Allah detainee Mustafa Dirani says his Israeli interrogators sexually assaulted him, humiliated and systematically tortured him in a futile attempt to get information about a missing Israeli airman.

Israel kidnapped Dirani in 1994 as a bargaining chip in exchange for information on Ron Arad, whose plane was shot down over Lebanon in 1986. Dirani is to be released in a large-scale prisoner swap this week."

<snip>

"Israeli and international human rights groups say Israel has routinely tortured Arab detainees during interrogation by depriving them of sleep, tying them up in painful positions and forcing them to wear hoods on their heads.
In 1999, Israel's Supreme Court banned the blanket use of such practices, and said they could only be authorised in specific instances.

Dirani, 53, testified as part of his lawsuit seeking 6 million shekels ($1.3 million) in damages for the alleged abuse, which he said took place years before the Supreme Court ruling. He limped badly and walked with a cane when he entered the Tel Aviv court room. He spoke only reluctantly and had to be coaxed into giving details about the torture."

7. Militia chief accuses Israelis of sodomy
Tel Aviv - A former Lebanese militia chief told a court on Tuesday he had been forcibly sodomised by Israeli secret service torturers who then left him shackled and soaking in excrement for almost two weeks.

Mustafa Dirani said he was too ashamed to repeat the words of his tormentors and instead spelt them out to the court hearing his claim for six million shekels (about $1,34-million or R7-million) in compensation over his 1994 interrogation.

Dirani's testimony was brought forward to Tuesday because he is due to return to Lebanon in two days in a prisoner exchange between Israel and the Lebanese guerrilla group Hizbollah. Dirani was captured in south Lebanon in 1994 by Israelis seeking information on missing airman Ron Arad.

'The pain was indescribable'
Dirani described his alleged sodomy by a soldier at the orders of an intelligence officer codenamed "George", and another incident in which he said a police baton was inserted into his rectum.

10. A 6 hour testimony
Just days before his release he tells this story and demands 6 million shekels. What does he have to loose? By slandering his captors, claiming innocence and reversing his story about having sold Ron Arad to the Iranians he clears his name and will pave the way for hero status after release.

Couldn't be a better deal for a condition of release. Meanwhile, the Israeli navigator Ron Arad seems to have vanished again.
