Sharansky: Israeli 'Nazifiers' are traitors
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 05:33 PM by Herschel

Minister-without-Portfolio Natan Sharansky said Tuesday that left-wing Israeli politicians and academics who make comparisons between Israel and Nazi Germany are "collaborators" with the new anti-Semitism.

Sharansky, responsible for Jerusalem and Diaspora affairs, was addressing the Knesset to mark Israel's National Day to Combat Anti-Semitism. He said Israelis who refer to the IDF as a "Nazi army" and Israel as a "Nazi country" are not engaging in legitimate political criticism against the state, but are "setting Jewish home on fire."

Sharansky said the new anti-Semitism "at home and abroad" is trying to turn Israel into an "apartheid state" that has no right to exist.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon delivered a strong message to Europe that it must deal with the problem of rising anti-Semitism. "Europe has to admit that the anti-Semitic germ has risen again and is spreading in worrisome proportions," Sharon told the Knesset.

Much opposition to Israel is rooted in anti-Semitism. I will leave it at that.

2. "Disagree with me ...
... and YOU are anti-semitic ...' ....

THAT is the formula for reality ... right ? ...

The algorithm of truth .... eh ? ..

It is an ugly and viciously fallacious allegation.....

4. Interestingly
There was some gloating about this topic in the Israeli media recently (News First Class), citing Uri Avinery's statements distancing Israel from the comparison to Hafrada.

On the topic, Sharansky is a complete tool.

5. Distortion of Soviet proportions
Now that's a comparison I hope the Jerusalem Post can appreciate.

Left-wing "failings" in Israel are Europe's fault.

The anti-semite card. Again.

Comparing abusers of power to anti-semites (Nazis) is anti-semitic.

They sound like pretty desperate themes to me.

As far as I can tell, the Left is trying to get the terms of debate to match the reality in Isreal. The references to apartheid tend to ring true, I'm afraid.

7. Oh and...
As Sharansky surely knows, it's a short step from "collaborators", to "treason", and from there a very short step to a national security state.

No surprise to see these comments, since that is probably what he wants, in line with folks like MK Yahalom.

8. No, anti-Sharonism is on the rise in the EU. And it is about time.
They have watched in silence long enough;
time to start matching rhetoric with action.
Peace in the Middle East will have to be thrust upon them by the EU
under the auspices of the UN. Nothing will happen until Bush is gone,
of course. All the US has to do is let it happen (not interfere).
