Palestinian malnutrition at African levels under Israeli curbs, say MPs
Palestinian malnutrition at African levels under Israeli curbs, say MPs
By Ben Russell, Political Correspondent
05 February 2004

Malnutrition rates in the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank are as bad as those in sub-Saharan Africa, MPs said yesterday. They warned that the Israeli security fence around the occupied territories was "destroying the Palestinian economy and creating widespread poverty".

The all-party Commons International Development Committee called for European Union trade sanctions to be imposed on Israel until it allowed the free export of goods from the West Bank and Gaza.

The MPs, who carried out a fact-finding trip to Israel as part of their six-month inquiry, criticised corruption and mismanagement by the Palestinian Authority, but also condemned the actions of the Israeli government.

<snip>

"Key measures, such as the construction of a security barrier, may bring the mirage of immediate security to Israelis, but the level of despair felt by ordinary Palestinians at being denied an ordinary life can only increase the supply of suicide bombers. Nor is it likely to elicit any concessions from the Palestinian leaders."

MPs said that the Israeli government and many ordinary Israelis regarded all Palestinians as potential suicide bombers, but said that "it is tragically the case that for a number of Palestinians, the harder the Israeli Defence Force bears down on them the more they feel obliged to resist by force of arms".

1. That's because the US-funded Policy of Starvation is working!

Americans can go to their jobs secure in the knowledge that a hefty chunk of their earnings are going to help starve African AND Palestinian children!

And that helps keep America's important oil and defense industries strong and growing!

2. If Arafat would round up suicide bombers, this problem would go away.
If Arafat would release the 900 million dollars out of his Swiss account, this problem would go away.

I must admit to skepticism about this claim - I have never seen a photo of starving Palestinians.

8. No. That's because the Arafat family corruption machine
would rather skim off the top than feed their people.

You don't get to be a Billionaire lifetime public servent by being honest. And now it looks like any paper in the PA that discusses it gets a visit from Arafat's goon squad...

Charming little thug this butcher's turned into.

3. What next?
The Paelstinians not only dependent on Israel but Israel's greatest destroyer. Now Israel must be responsible for all the ills of poverty (25% of Israel's are also hungry, but that's not important).

Israelis can picket the government for reform, run a scam on the free market, or if all else fails, go into crime. None of that is possible in Arafat's PA.

4. Israel can choose to let food into Palestine, and spend their own money

on feeding Israeli children instead of murdering Palestinian ones.

The same can be said of the US, where there are also children who are hungry, but society feels it is better to kill African and Middle Eastern children instead of feeding them.

9. "Missions for justice?"
How hyperbolic. Not that I am immune from such myself. It has been argued, though, by many dedicated Zionists on the left within Israel, that this price is too high to pay in order to retain a military presence in the territories.

12. Where are the Palestinians' Arab "brothers"?
They see the US through the prism of the I/P conflict yet won't feed their "brothers"?
