Panel hears grim details on child prostitution in Israel - Haaretz
By Zvi Zrahiya, Haaretz Correspondent

Over 1,000 minors around the country are involved in prostitution, with their parent's encouragement, the Knesset Labor and Welfare Committee heard Monday. Dorit Brightman of the ELEM Youth in Distress non-profit organization told the committee that many of the minors are forced into prostitution because of the dire economic situation, and some have even died as a result.

2. The article
talks about prostitution as a means of survival. Not about mafia activity. This problem as a reflection not only of morals (the international TV programs received mainly from US sources is a primary influence here) and economic need.

3. American TV is to blame for child prostitution ?
The same TV industry that made innumerable apologies for displaying a woman's breast ? Would you mind fleshing this out please. The economic need factor of course I understand.

4. TV includes
movies from Hollywood. I didn't say it was the cause. i said it was in influence. Shows like "The Tribes", and others with immodest dress and on-screen sex are pushing the immorality. It has gone beyond the TV screen. It is world wide, but the US is a producer here.

I'm pointing to the morality of the screen as one of the influences. It is not Israel or only Israel. It is world-wide.

Secondly, your example is not relevant. In fact, the exposing of breast only shows how daring and risky shows have become. It was not primarily a TV show, from what I understood, but a presentation at a sport event. Many shows have gone beyond that. Even the dress at the resent Grammy awards rivals that.

Here is a quote about the Jackson event that I've looked up:

"This particular event might be, for the moment, the straw that broke the camel's back on the patience of the audience," said talk show host Carson Daly, a veteran presence on MTV, which produced the offending halftime show. "Tolerance of this sort of sexual imagery may have reached its peak."

This certainly indicates that it was not an isolated occurrence, whether she apologized profusely or not.

10. Actually you said

("I didn't say it was the cause. i said it was in influence.")

You wrote it was a "primary influence"

Of course the consenting parent to the prostitution has no bearing.

It's western culture. Not to far off from the opinions of the Saudi's. Didn't they ban another doll today.

9. A tragic and important issue
And one that should be addressed wherever children are forced into prostitution for survival...in many, many countries across the world including the United States.
