Israel's Top Tourism Official Praises Pat Robertson

-- Israel's top tourism official is praising evangelist Pat Robertson for helping steer evangelical Christians to the country.

Israeli Tourism Minister Benny Elon honored the conservative Christian author and commentator at a religious convention breakfast in Charlotte. The National Religious Broadcasters' convention is bringing 6,000 Christian media to the city through Wednesday.

Robertson praised Israel's survival in the face of what he called a "fanatical religion" of its Muslim neighbors. He said Palestinian President Yasser Arafat was raised to finish the work of Hitler.

I often take issue with this individual, yet I welcome support for Israel from across the political spectrum. The observation of Arafat is interesting.

the tactic of acquiescing in the short term, in attempt to hold a tiger by its tail, has long term consequences.

unfortunately, I can not expand more because it relates to the actions of some in a certain european nation in the 1930's.

it's difficult when a certain portion of history is deemed off limits.

Pat Robertson blamed homosexuals and the ACLU for 9/11. He believes only Christians and Jews should be allowed into the government. He claimed God told him Bush will win in a landslide. This is the support you want? Or you simply don't care? If David Duke offered to help me protest NAFTA I'd say "no thanks."

Pat Robertson compared the "plight" of Christians in America to that of the Jews in Hitler's Germany. In fact, he believes the "persecutions" of Christians in America is in fact worse. It's pretty obvious that Robertson doesn't care about the Jews, and focuses his attention on the Muslims because he sees them, at 1 billion followers, as a bigger threat. If all the Muslims in the world disappeared overnight, Robertson would have his eye on Israel and be preaching that America should retake the Holy Land.

I would be careful about this. This is supposed to be a progressive message board, and I don't think that includes Christian Coalition flag-waving.
