Jordan slams Israel in world court
BARRIER BUSINESS: Jordan denounced Israel's use of the controversial separation barrier in the West Bank and said it threatens the future stability of the kingdom

AP , THE HAGUE
Thursday, Feb 26, 2004,Page 6

Jordan led a continuing attack on Israel's separation barrier at the world court on Tuesday, warning that the structure threatens the future stability of the kingdom.

With a parade of speakers denouncing Israel's actions in the West Bank, it appears the case could have implications for Israel's other occupational policies -- including settlements.

Israel, which says the barrier is meant for self defense, declined to participate in the three-day hearing this week. It said sending the dispute to the court undermines peace negotiations, and also questioned the fairness of the court. The US and European nations have also avoided the hearings.

4. Every country, even America, opposes the wall
What does that tell you?

7. No. The US doesn't oppose the wall
The US opposition is only relevant to where the wall is over the Green Line. That is, where it SIGNIFICANTLY changes a pre-determined land area. That is not, however, the negotiated boarder. The large Israeli settlements on the greenline are left on the Palestinians side, which would not provide security. Therefore, the security issue would be untenable if no security were provided to those settlements. The settlements exist. Civilians live there. They are also entitled to protection.

15. It opposes the route of the wall
That is the central objection to it. Most people would support it if it were on the Green Line.

And wants them heading toward the sea, not Jordan.

8. Could be
the fact that 75% of Jordan is Palestinian (non nomadic) Arab but the King is Hashemite (from the Peninsula).

It could also be the fact that the PLO tried to kill the present Kings dad.

It could be the revolution in 1972 led by Yassir Arafat.

Or it could be irrational.

11. Horrors
A monarchy with a constitutional requirement of racism - who's Constitution explicitly bans Jew, no matter what, from EVER becoming a Jordanian citizen - is objecting to a representative democracy's legal actions?

A country that siezed the West Bank in 1948 against UN law, that held it against all international law for almost 20 years, that destroyed Jewish gravesites, synagogues and archaeological sites in Jerusalem is telling Israel what to do with the West Bank?

The country that killed more "Palestinians" than all other countries combined, whose massacres are still refered to as Black September is saying it's horrified that this might increase the PA workers commute time to their jobs in Israel and we're supposed to take them seriously?

One of two countries that Homeland Security and the US military hire to torture Moslem prisoners from Guantanamo is objecting to Israel building a fence?

The hypocrisy of the Jordanian government and those who are applauding them is mind boggling.

13. Funny thing
When Israel's involved, you're horrified.

When Jordan's involved in worse, we get :boring:

I think that says a lot.
