Israel's opposition leader has talks with Mubarak

Peres' meeting with Egyptian leader focuses on Mideast situation, finding ways of achieving peace in region.

CAIRO - Israel's opposition leader Shimon Peres had talks here with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Thursday on the Middle East peace process and the future of the region.

"Mr Peres put forward his view of the situation in the Middle East, focused on his determination to achieve a fair and comprehensive peace," Mubarak's political adviser Osama el-Baz said after the talks.

"The meeting centred on ways of strengthening the peace process between Israel and the Arab countries and the future of the Middle East once peace is established."
