Gazan girl, 12, shot dead at home
Gazan girl, 12, shot dead at home
Saturday 10 April 2004

A 12-year-old Palestinian girl has been shot dead in the southern Gaza Strip, Aljazeera's correspondent reports.

Iman Talba was killed in the Amal quarter of the city of Khan Yunis on Saturday when Israeli occupation soldiers from the Ganei Tal Jewish settlement opened fire at her three- storey building nearby.

The Israeli army said it was checking the report.

Talba's cousin, Alaa, told Reuters he saw a bullet fly through the family's kitchen window, ricochet off a wall and hit her. He added there were no clashes in the area at the time.

"Iman had returned from school and was going to the kitchen to ask her mother about lunch," he said.

"While she was getting a plate, a bullet suddenly came through the window and she was shot in her head, with her blood spilling onto the floor."

1. Poor girl
My heart goes out to her family. Another innocent victim of Israel's occupation.

Every suicide bombing is trumpeted by the news media here, but I'm sure we would not have heard about this without Al Jazeera.

2. What a horrible story

Another of an innocent child of this region lost, for no good reason. And one more good reason for U.S. intervention, to insist on peace negotiations. Clinton came so close and worked so hard. Bush* has largely ignored this. We need an advocate that will work hard in this region for a lasting peace. Obviously, Bush* is not going to be that advocate.

Edited for spelling
