Pope says killing of Hamas leader was contrary to will of God
http://www.ekklesia.co.uk/content/news_syndication/article_040419pope.shtml

<snip>

"The killing of Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantissi was an “inhuman act,” Pope John Paul II has said at the Vatican.

Such acts are contrary to the will of God said the Pontiff.

“I am following with great sadness the tragic news coming from the Holy Land and Iraq. The shedding of blood by brothers must end. Such inhuman acts are contrary to the will of God,” the Pope said on Sunday.

His comments challenge the attitudes of many evangelical Christians in the US, who have said they support Israel’s policy of killing terrorists."

7. He is more expert than most - he was nearly killed by an assassin
And whether you regard him or not, he is the leader and spokesman for the world's largest Christian community.

4. Is the Pope trying to get Bush and Sharon to stop killing
in God's name?

If so, the Pope is pissing in the wind. Sadly, Bush and Sharon aren't going to listen to the Catholic Pope.

6. Killing terrorists is not killing in God's name
It is self defense.

15. Funny you should mention that
The general criminal law allows for the use of necessary and proportionate, non-deadly force in self-defense anytime the victim reasonably believes that unlawful force is about to be used on him.

There is nothing non-deadly or proportionate about Israel's actions.

21. I would hope he'd be captured and tried in a court of law
However, Osama is far, FAR different than what we are discussing. Osama is not fighting for anyone's freedom. The Palestinians are trying to end the occupation and oppression that the Israeli government imposes on them.

26. No.
First it kills many innocents. Second it is a lawless act itself. To support lawless acts by one side means to support it for all sides.
Two wrongs do not make a right. If they have enough evidence to enact a death penalty on the street then they have enough evidence to arrest and appeal to the world court.
Your position lacks merit and I get the impression you only take it to be contrary anyway.

27. Then you want battles in the streets
And potentially LOTS more dead. That's what it takes to capture -- troops on the ground. Then troops to protect the assault team. Then vehicles and air support to protect them. Of course all of this will inspire a response and then the resulting battle will kill a bunch of folks on both sides.

14. It's very hard, impossible
to be a true Christian. 'Turning the other cheek' is ignored. 'An eye for an eye' is preferable, just like it is for the Muslims.

28. I thought Yaweh wanted the Jews to own Israel?
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 06:29 PM by brainshrub
Or was it Allah who wanted the Palestinians to have a homeland?

Or was it God who doesn't like assasinations.

Gah! So the Supreme Being wants so much! It's hard to keep score.

29. I don't know who Yaweh is
and I can't speak for Allah or God, but I'm sure every decent person in the world wants the Palestinians, and all other homeless peoples, to have their very own homeland.
