Cameraman's widow presses Israel

"The widow of a cameraman shot in the Gaza Strip has spoken of her frustration at the unanswered questions that remain a year on from his death.
James Miller was killed in Rafah while making a documentary about the impact of conflict on Palestinian children.

His widow Sophy, 33, has carried on the struggle for justice at the same time as caring for their two young children.
Last week she met senior figures in the Israeli government to argue for a full, open inquiry into his death."

"Mrs Miller, from Braunton in Devon, talked to Ranaan Gissin, adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and representatives of the foreign affairs ministry, the IDF and the Judge Advocate General during her Middle East trip.

While important progress was made, Mrs Miller said it was hard to believe no-one had yet been found responsible for the killing."

"A film which caused the death of its 34-year-old director took the audience award at Hot Docs 2004, which ended on Sunday night in Toronto.

Death in Gaza follows four Palestinian children under Israeli occupation, and shows how the cult of martyrdom is sustained. The director, James Miller, was shot by an Israeli soldier in May of last year, leaving producer and reporter Saira Shah to finish the film."

"This year, Hot Docs, the biggest documentary film festival and documentary market in North America, drew an audience of about 40,000."
