Ex-PA minister decries its corruption
Jawad Saleh, a former Palestinian Authority cabinet minister and prominent anti-corruption legislator, called on fellow Palestinians Sunday to take to the streets and topple the Palestinian Legislative Council.

He said the 88-member council, which is dominated by PA Chairman Yasser Arafat's Fatah organization, is "trying to cover up all the corruption in the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinian masses are urged to take to the streets in peaceful demonstrations in order to overthrow the PLC and develop a new leadership," he told Shepherd TV in Bethlehem. He also called for new elections for the PLC and the PA leadership.

Saleh's call came after he was ejected from a PLC debate on a growing scandal surrounding the supply of cement for the construction of the security fence and new homes in the settlements.

A Palestinian parliamentary committee found that at least four cement companies, some owned by senior PA officials, had purchased cement from Egypt on behalf of Israeli businessmen. The committee recommended that the PA attorney-general launch an investigation into the case.
