Soldiers accused of coordinating their testimony after Palestinian killed at IDF roadblock."Two members of an elite IDF unit have been charged with coordinating their testimony following the killing of a Palestinian at an army roadblock.
According to the indictment, submitted to the northern command military court today (Tuesday), one of the soldiers is charged with causing death by negligence, providing false testimony, and disrupting an investigation. The other soldier is also charged with providing false testimony and disrupting investigation procedures.
The incident in question took place at a roadblock near Jenin in June 2003. According to the indictment, one of the soldiers fired at a Palestinian vehicle that arrived at the scene and drove around the roadblock. One of the Palestinians traveling in the car was killed as a result of the shooting. The soldier is now charged with causing death by negligence and opening fire in contradiction of the rules of engagement.
However, during the debriefing, the soldier lied to the battalion's commander, claiming that he fired shots in the air when in fact he fired at the car. Moreover, the soldier coordinated his testimony with another soldier in the unit, with both of them claiming the shots were fired in the air."
