Official: Israel won't alter policy of nuclear ambiguity
A senior Israel Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC) official said on Thursday that Israel has no plans to alter its policy of nuclear ambiguity.

The official spoke to reporters following International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Mohammed ElBaradei's two-day visit to Israel, during which the UN nuclear watchdog chief met with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

During their Thursday morning meeting, Sharon rejected suggestions that Israel begin discussions regarding the formation of a nuclear weapon-free zone in the Middle East at the moment. This will only be possible during the second phase of the implementation of the U.S.-backed road map, Sharon told ElBaradei.

During the road map's second phase, international committees will handle issues including regional security matters, Sharon explained to ElBaradei.

7. Maybe that was Saddam's mistake
if he'd just said "Maybe we do and maybe we don't" when asked about Iraq's weapons stores, we could have left him alone, because nuclear ambiguity is Oakilly doakilly.

Can someone explain why refusing to say either way is more of a detterent than coming out and saying "Yep we've got 'em and we're not afraid to use 'em"

If it ever does come down to nuke wars in the middle east do the Israeli's really think the Iranians (for example) will say "nah better not bomb Israel after all she may have been pretending all this time"
