Slight Tremor Rattles Lebanon, Jordan, Israel

A magnitude 4.7 quake has rattled Lebanon and was felt throughout Israel, Jordan and the Dead Sea, with its epicenter in Tel Aviv, Israel's seismological institute said.

Buildings shook for several seconds.
A magnitude 5 quake can cause considerable damage in populated areas.

The tremor after sundown Wednesday sent panicky residents of Amman fleeing their homes. But no casualties or serious damage were reported from the tremor in Lebanon, Jordan or Israel.

In Lebanon, the tremor was felt most in southern townships close to the border with Israel.

Israel and Jordan border the Syrian-African rift, a geological fault line that stretches from Syria to Mozambique and is often subject to tremors.
