Israel continues onslaught in Gaza
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 03:18 AM by Aidoneus
Another warning? I mean no disruption, it's not a rule I'm fond of, and I don't believe these pieces should be conveniently hidden. In such actions, you in your own way are helping along these vicious crimes.

Israel continues onslaught in Gaza
Wednesday 06 October 2004

Israeli occupation forces have continued their attacks in Gaza, shelling a town in the northern Gaza Strip, killing a boy and two Palestinian men as well as injuring 10 children.

Witnesses to the attack on Bait Lahya said a barrage of tank fire ripped through several homes early on Wednesday morning.

Medics said a 15-year-old Palestinian, Abd Allah Qahtan, died immediately while two other men, Hamdan Ubaid and his son Hmud, were also killed in the Israeli offensive on civilian homes.

Aljazeera's correspondent reports that Ubaid was an imam of a local mosque and died as he was about to leave home for Fajr (dawn prayers).

"Israeli forces are still opening random fire at these areas ... the situation is absolutely disastrous ... citizens cannot leave their houses even if they are injured or sick," the correspondent added.

A shell also hit a house where families had gathered their children for safety, wounding nine ranging in age from six months to 12 years - several of them seriously - hospital officials said.

1. Sad --
And the children pay the price.

100 Israeli children -- dead
600 Palestinian children -- dead.
(stats from the article cited above)
So sad.

This goes on and on.

The only group pleased with the continual upheaval and blood shed -- the right wing fundamentalists cult members -- the end timers.

Children should be protected from the evil of adults.

Sad -- so sad --

2. This stuff shouldn't be hidden...
Sweeping this stuff under the rug and hoping it all goes away is what the problem is with US public perception of the I/P conflict. Then everyone can merrily get on with their cosy lives and never notice that the US is vetoing any and all attempts to put a halt to the bloodshed...

Violet...

3. I doubt anybody would dare to claim this is not "relevant"
Since the US just veteoed a UN Security Council resolution on the topic.

5. U.S. Vetoes U.N. Resolution
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A9628-2004Oct5.html

<snip>

"The United States vetoed a Security Council resolution condemning Israel for its incursion into the Gaza Strip, calling the resolution "lopsided and unbalanced" because it failed to mention Palestinian rocket attacks against Israeli civilians that triggered the action.

The resolution, which was co-sponsored by Pakistan and Algeria, obtained 11 votes in favor Tuesday. Britain, Germany and Romania abstained, citing concern that the text did not fault Palestinian attacks. But the U.S. veto, the seventh cast by the Bush administration on a resolution that condemned Israeli actions, blocked its adoption."

<snip>

"The Palestinian representative, Nasser Kidwa, said after the vote that "this is another sad day for the Security Council" for not calling for "cessation of the bloodshed of the Palestinian people in northern Gaza." He said he is considering calling for an emergency session of the U.N. General Assembly to press for Israel's condemnation."

<snip>

"The failed resolution condemned Israel's "military incursion" into northern Gaza, citing "extensive human casualties and destruction." It also demanded "the immediate cessation of all military operations in the area of northern Gaza and the withdrawal of the Israeli occupying forces from that area."

6. The part where it says "Israel"
If past practice is any guide.

The US even abstained once on a resolution that condemned suicide bombing specifically because it demanded Israel withdraw back to Sep 28 2000 positions, which was actually a demand made by the US-authorised Mitchell report.

7. I'm beginning to see why Sharon is willing to concede Gaza
to the Palestinians.

There won't be anyone left there.
