Political level, IDF at odds over Gaza operation

Military believes level of intensity should be reduced, while leadership wants same mode to continue, mainly due to relative quiet of international community.

"The political and military level are at odds regarding the continuation of operation Days of Penitence in the northern Gaza Strip.

In spite of the fact that the IDF is pleased with the results of the operation, which aimed at significantly reducing the firings of Kassam rockets at southern Israel, senior officers said that “it is necessary to change the mode of operation and reduce the level of its intensity”.

According to the officers, “Our leadership has fallen in love with the operation and is demanding that we keep up the pressure”.

The officers added that the reason behind the wish to maintain the current mode of operation was the relative quiet of the international community, enabling the IDF to continue pounding the Gaza terror groups. Operation Rainbow in the southern Gaza Strip, which was held several months ago, ended after international pressure."
