Duke to host anti-Israel conference

Duke University is hosting a Palestinian solidarity conference Friday organized by a group that refuses to condemn terrorism, urges the flooding of Israel with millions of Palestinian refugees to dissolve its Jewish character, and calls on the public to divest from Israel.

Attendees of the three-day event will listen to speakers explain their strategies for taking action against Israel, including lectures entitled, "Divestment: The Weapon of the Global Fight for Justice" and a talk on "How to effectively use the media and improved public relations to advance the Palestinian cause."

The conference will be PSM's fourth national gathering, following previous events at Berkeley, Michigan and Ohio State. Some PSM critics have charged those earlier events were hotbeds of anti-Semitism, with some attendees shouting, "Kill the Jews," and "Death to Israel!"

6. A right wing conservative source that's full of bullshit...

..but that's nothing unusual either. Having a bit of time on my hands and the stupid urge to delve into the slimebath of smears and lies in that article, I clicked on the full page advertisement by that uni conservative union and checked out their accusations against the careful footnoting. No surprise to find that what they used to back up their accusations was links to other conservative dribble which consisted of 'so and so said this and that!!!'

I'm glad I'm not a student in the US. These 'waaah! If you criticise Israel or support Palestinian self-determination you're a Jew hater terrorist supporter!!' wankers are nothing but bullyboy thugs who want to shut down any discussion on issues that they believe there's an absolute truth about. All this carry-on and theatrics abusing the memory of dead Israelis by using them for political means in a 'My Victims Are Better Than Their Victims!!' display of silliness is something I'm grateful the uni I go to doesn't have to endure. The ISM have given talks here without any of that crap, and Ilan Pappe (who I'm sure those wankers would detest) gave a brilliant and commotion-free lecture a while back...

14. I'd like to say I'm amazed too...

I'd expect to see blind and unswerving acceptance of anything a conservative source says at boards of a more whiffy political bent, but not here at DU. But it's a habit some people have engaged in in the past, so it no longer amazes me. In order not to be so amazed in future, a quick check of the claims a stinky conservative source is trotting out against what's actually come out of the horses mouth can save untold embarressment and amazement ;)
