Sources: Serious deterioration in Arafat's health
Palestinian sources in Ramallah said Wednesday night that there has been a serious deterioration in Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's health.

The sources said a number of Palestinian officials were summoned urgently to Arafat's Mukata compound in Ramallah following reports that Arafat has lost consciousness.

Among the officials were Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei and former Prime Miister Mahmoud Abbas.

The officials are still at the Mukata.

5. I won't mourn...
neither will I rejoice.

The only item worth mentioning is the last living Nobel Prize Laureate associated with this conflict may soon be passing on.

May his contemporaries soon join him...

11. umm,what?
I apologize if I have simply lost my ability to understand the English language, but are you calling for Shimon Peres to die? Umm, of all the leaders associated with this terrible conflict, you are opinionless about Yassir Arafat dying, and pro-Shimon Peres dying? Can you please explain? Thank you.

12. I was referring to Sharon (remember him?)...
but Shimon has had the same level of success as Yassir and Arik.

It would be no great loss. Time for the grumpy old men to move on.

7. Arafat may be taken to local hospital within the hour
Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat may be transferred to a hospital in Ramallah within the hour for medical treatment, a security official said Thursday afternoon.

The official said Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz agreed to a Palestinian request to transfer Arafat to the local hospital. Mofaz said he will authorize any request for humanitarian assistance without a problem and so far Israel has agreed to everything the Palestinians have requested.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon spoke earlier Thursday with PA Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei and gave him his consent to allow Arafat to leave his compound – which he has been confined to for almost three years – and go to any hospital he wishes, here or abroad.

A PA cabinet minister told The Jerusalem Post Thursday morning that Tunisian and Palestinian medics who have been treating the 75-year-old PA chairman for the past few days were now trying to persuade him to leave the Mukata compound for treatment in hospital.
