French doctors say Arafat improving, rule out leukemia

"A French hospital treating Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat said on Tuesday the leader's condition was improving with treatment and ruled out leukemia.

"A clinical exam and initial tests performed ... confirmed the abnormal blood count, high white blood cell count and low platelet count and ruled out a diagnosis of leukemia," Palestinian envoy to Paris, Leila Shahid, said in the first joint statement with a French military hospital treating Arafat.

The statement, drawn up with doctors treating the 75-year-old Palestinian leader, said there had been a "general improvement" in Arafat's condition over the past 72 hours, including an improvement in his white blood cell count."

"Arafat was well enough to talk to his doctors, colleagues, close relatives and heads of state, but is still not allowed visitors other than his immediate family, the statement added."

2. Yesterday those same Drs said he had lost a lot of his brain
power, and wasn't able to make sense when he talked. Does this improvement mean that his mental ability is improving too?

3. I don't think...
...Arafat's French doctors have finished examining him yet. I have yet to hear them issue any definitive statement addressing his mental state.
