1. Arafat dead!!
Palestinian President Yasser Arafat died in the Percy military hospital near Paris, Proche Orient Info, a French newspaper that covers the Middle East reported Thursday evening.

Radio Monte-Carlo also reported on Thursday evening that Yasser Arafat is clinically dead.

Proche Orient reported that doctors decided to take Arafat off the artificial respirator on Thursday evening at about 5:30 p.m.

Channel two reported that the Israel Defense Forces received information Thursday from a "very reliable source" that Yasser Arafat died in hospital at about 5:30 p.m. Israel time.

4. Article has been changed.
New headline: "Hospital Officials: Arafat Not Dead"

Relevant text:

At a press conference at Percy Military Hospital held at 6:30 p.m. officials said Arafat was not dead, but did not give his condition. The officials said Arafat was taken to intensive care so that "he could get the treatment required for his illness." The press conference lasted less than two minutes.

"Mr. Arafat is not dead," Christian Estripeau, a spokesman for the Percy hospital, told a news conference in a brief statement.

"The clinical situation following the first days after admission has become more complicated. The patient's health requires appropriate treatment which necessitated his transfer during the afternoon of Wednesday, November 3, to a unit suitable for his condition," Estripeau said.

3. not like he's done anything for "his" people over the last several years
maybe now the can actually have elections and get a government in place that will work to improve the situation and condition, rather than espouse hate and cling to past indeologies.....

9. Yasser Arafat Kept on Life Support
http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,1564,1385543,00.html

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was Thursday "brain dead" and breathing only thanks to artificial life support systems, a French medical source said after conflicting reports as to whether he was alive or dead.

<snip>

"In strictly technical terms, Arafat was "not dead," the source told AFP on condition of confidentiality, adding that the 75-year-old leader had slipped into an irreversible coma and could only be maintained in his vegetative state through ventilation machines.

The information followed a short statement by a senior French military official who said "Mr Arafat is not dead."

The Palestinian Authority president's condition was "complex," General Christian Estripeau, the spokesman for the French defence forces' medical service, told reporters outside the Paris military hospital which had been tending to Arafat."

<snip>

"French medical sources said Arafat's health had suddenly and dramatically deteriorated Wednesday while he was undergoing tests to determine the cause of an illness which prompted his medical evacuation to Paris last Friday.

A diagnosis of the illness has not been revealed."

13. Bluesoul!
Welcome back! It's been way too long...

Me, I'm still trying to work out what the obsession with Arafat and AIDS is. (well, not really. A now-departed post told me exactly what I suspected the reason was) :)

Violet...

Hi Violet! :*

Basically I really don't know what the fuss. EVEN if Arafat was bisexual or homosexual for that matter, is that supposed to be a problem here on a PROGRESSIVE/LIBERAL board?

Is that a vice and wrongdoing according to US progressives?

Certainly not here in Europe where liberals really are liberal (in every sense of the word), where hopefully most of EU will have a very liberal legislation on the subject. Even Spain (of all countries, being so Catholic) has gone very liberal and legalised homosexual marriages.

That and the fact that he may be dying yet some people here gloat about it. Hey I don't like Sharon any less, but I wouldn't be saying hallelujah if he was dying. There's some humanity in me and letting people die in peace no matter what they did in the past (or present for that matter)...

Ah well

16. Well myself being a gay guy...
Object to this Terrorist besmirching all our good Gay names...Hes not welcome in my fraternity. And liberal or not you may be but it really does matter in his country if he were gay or not, maybe other gay guys there would be able to ummmm ....not die of unnatural causes...such as murder if they were tolerated in a ``liberal`` society.

17. Hmmm
What do (Orthodox) Jews think about homosexuality? Hmmm.....

So much for them gay Hating Arabs/Muslims. Religion in general is problematic regarding homosexuals, not just the Arab world as you would like to imply. But those pesky details...

20. Maybe you should watch a movie...
...called `Trembling before G-d`` about how ultra ultra orthodox Jewish families deal with their families when one of their kids comes out as being gay.An Honor killing you may ask? ...NOPE...disowned? NOPE...

Their is one country in the middle east where homosexuality is not illegal...guess where?

Theres one country in the middle east where I can kiss my boyfriend on the street and not get killed...guess where......

There a city in that same country where I can get a civil union with my partner and then celebrate the ceremony openly...guess where....

Theres a thriving gay community with Pride parades in all three cities Tel Aviv,Jerusalem and Haifa .. where theres no banishment or murder and a large amount of these gays are Palestinians unable to live their natural lifestyles in the territories.

Another movie I can recommend (and I feel like a movie critic here) In Hebrew ,which won many International and Israeli movie awards is called ``YOSI AND JAGGER`` the story of 2 IDF gay soldiers in times of war expressing their not so forbidden love in the Israeli army..

....bong........:bounce:

27. And i guess
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 03:06 PM by bluesoul
there are no gay/lesbian Palestinians living peacefully without being killed for that they are, ha? Please, dont tell me Palestinians are these monsters that wouldn't let a single homosexual be a part of them as though their religion is the only one that doesn't tolerate their "behaviour".

Your black-white world (Jews/Israelis good, tolerant, Arabs/Palestinians bad, evil, homophobic, killing homosexuals) is pathethic and REVEALING your agenda and political background. And most of all far from realistic and OBJECTIVE.

Even many (leftist) Jews know better then this crap...

21. well I tend not to spend as much time
in that vile nazi like filthpit as others here obviously do (don't beleive in coincidence btw) so I couldn't tell you - but as it happens yes it has - it doesn't use 365gay as the source but guess what - 365gay isn't a news site it's GATHERS news from other outlets so LGF doesn't need to quote 365gay to be using the same story - they both got them from the same source.

24. I thought you Jewish?
I aint religious , my family is culturally, traditionally, zionistically Jewish more than religious...like dare I say most South African Jews.

If its genetic there seems to be a large number and proportin of Jewish gays, very highly represented in the Israeli military,

I find Jewish gay guy`s families...of most of my friends too...to be ``very tolerant of us ``..:)
I never knew one to be banished or epelled and ceased to be loved.

I like it when you ask me questions in a civil manner like this...:hi:

25. sorry got the impression
don't know why that you were quite religious, I've personally found (in Aust atleast don't know if I could say the same for US) that most Jews just like most Christians and it may surprise you but also MOST Muslims don't give a flying who people find themselves attracted to, I guess because you mentioned exchanges with what I know to be a very fundie school (or atleast was when a friend of mine went there) I assumed you were of the more ardently religious stripe as well.

Given that you're not I assume your support of Israel is based on the "a Jewish nation" rather than "Holy land given by God?" and you don't support the extension of Israel into the OT?
