Palestinians Called 'Stinking Animals' on MSNBC's 'Imus'
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/18/04) – A prominent national Islamic civil rights
and advocacy group today called for an apology from the MSNBC cable
television network over comments on its "Imus in the Morning" program that
referred to Palestinians as "stinking animals" and suggested that they all be
killed.

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) also
urged that the program's host, Don Imus, be reprimanded for failing to
challenge his colleagues’ inflammatory remarks. CAIR, which says it
received numerous complaints about the comments, quoted a transcript of
Imus’ November 12th program in which he and his on-air colleagues engaged
in the following discussion about live coverage of Palestinian President
Yasser Arafat's funeral:

DON IMUS: They're (the Palestinians) eating dirt and that fat pig wife of
his is living in Paris.
COLLEAGUE: They’re all brainwashed, though. That’s what it is. And they're
stupid, to begin with, but they’re brainwashed now. Stinking animals. They
ought to drop the bomb right there, kill ‘em all right now…
IMUS: Well, the problem is we have (reporter) Andrea (Mitchell) there; we
don't want anything to happen to her.
COLLEAGUE: Oh, she's got to get out. Andrea, get out and then drop the bomb
and kill everybody…
COLLEAGUE: Look at this. Animals. Animals!

4. When will people learn, Imus is the most unlistenable radio show on the
air. Imus is neither funny nor informative and that goes for his crew of idiots. I'd much rather listen to ANY other morning drive show than Imus, he is so totally irrelevant. Treats people like crap all the time. I can't believe people are so hungry for publicity that they go on his show.

9. It doesn't matter how irrelevant or uninformative he is...
What matters is that was a call for genocide openly aired in the US media. Aren't there anti-discrimination and anti-vilification laws over there? Just recently here, two irrelevant and uninformative morning talk-show morons were found guilty of vilification against homosexuals with the comments they made on their shows. Once the dust settles and the appeal's over, they're going to have to either issue a formal apology to the gay community and retract what they said. If they were in the US, I'm suspecting they would have gotten away with what they said and no-one would have taken much notice at all...

6. This "colleague" sounds just like a Nazi.
Depersonalize, then exterminate; that's the Nazi way.

Is it the Imus way, too?

8. Oh Geez...
It was Sid (If anyone knows stinkin' animals) Rosenberg.

Expanded Transcript:

DON IMUS, host: They're eating dirt and that fat pig wife of his is living in Paris.

ROSENBERG: They're all brainwashed, though. That's what it is. And they're stupid to begin with, but they're brainwashed now. Stinking animals. They ought to drop the bomb right there, kill 'em all right now.

BERNARD MCGUIRK, producer: You can just imagine standing there.

ROSENBERG: Oh, the stench.

IMUS: Well, the problem is that we have Andrea there. We don't want anything to happen to her.

ROSENBERG: Oh, she's got to get out. Just warn Andrea, get out, and then drop the bomb, kill everybody.

MCGUIRK: It's like the worst Woodstock.

ROSENBERG: Look at this. Look at these animals. Animals!

11.  MSNBC Apologizes for 'Imus' Remarks
Though if this is all of the apology,it's a bit short and unconvincing;

"The views expressed on the program are not those of MSNBC. Having said that, it
was unfortunate that these remarks were telecast on MSNBC. We sincerely
apologize to anyone who was offended by these remarks.”

12. Funny isn't it....
...you get fined half a million dollars for showing a tit, but get nothing for obnoxious racism and incitement to hatred and murder.

Surely the FCC must step in!

there was a discussion on GD pointing out how odd that the zionist % PNACers (the wolfies and feiths, etc.) representation are in washington compared to the general jewish population in the US...

slammmmmed down shut tight. no name calling, just discussion and exploration.

how long would a thread about jewish people on the whole being called stinking animals last here?

21. I can think of several obvious reasons...
Because no-one in this thread is having a 'discussion and exploration' trying to defend the foul comments that were made by these morning show morons...

I found that thread in GD and think some of that 'discussion and exploration' was venturing into the realms of bigotry, even if some of the posters involved may not have been aware of what they were saying...

btw, there's been quite a few articles posted here with radical clerics calling Jews all sorts of nasty things that have stayed open. I guess the difference is that in the case of this thread, and the ones I just mentioned, no DUer was popping up saying those things...

25. You and I both know....
exactly what what was meant by LNMB'S post...and I said "stench"

And that survey (just to remind anyone who is reading this) stated 62.5% of the palestinians supported the terrorists and their continued terrorism .Name another country or peoples in which 62.5% support the use of wanton murder of innocents...I simply can't think
any.....and I doubt you can.

(I remember that "survey" on transfer but honestly dont remember the
details. )

26. There are many polls which are slippery in their wording
Blanket statements that 62.5% of Palestinians support terrorism only promote a false stereotype and mask the real issues at hand.

As I recall that high of percentage involved attacks on settlers and troops inside the Occupied Territories. While attacking civilians is inexcusable, Israeli settlers inside the OT seem to have attracted a fairly high mix of ultra-nationalists and extremists who have shown a fairly high rate of militant confrontation with the Israeli government as well as a significant number of terrorist incidences against Palestinian civilians. So to say the hatred between Palestinian civilians to this Settler group is not equal is absurd and avoids the bigger picture.

Here is a poll of Palestinians from the same time period which breaks down the results in a way which highlights the situation.

http://www.dailyalert.org/archive/2002-11/2002-11-29.html

The latest poll shows Palestinians still strongly favor attacks against Israeli settlers and soldiers in the West Bank and Gaza -- lands claimed by the Palestinians for their own state -- but that 56 percent favor steps by the Palestinian Authority to stop attacks in Israel.

As recently as May, a similar poll showed that 86 percent of Palestinians opposed arresting Palestinian militants involved in suicide bombings inside Israel.

The poll, by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, questioned 1,319 people in personal interviews from Nov. 14-22 and quoted a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

It showed that 53 percent of Palestinians still support attacking Israeli civilians and 90 percent support attacks on soldiers and Jewish settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

But 76 percent said they backed efforts to reach a mutual cease-fire, a sharp rise from the 48 percent who supported an end to the violence
just three months ago.

As a side note, there are similar cherry-picked quotes from polls about Israelis which also try and make a black & white issue out of a very complicated situation.
