Teaching hatred
Denying recognition of Israel's existence is cemented through tens of maps in the schoolbooks in which "Palestine" encompasses all of Israel.

Completing the dangerous messages of the new books is the teaching that Israel must be destroyed as religious obligation:

"Islam encourages this and established the defense of it as an obligatory commandment for every Muslim if even a centimeter of his land is stolen. I, a Palestinian Muslim, love my country Palestine..."

The results of this delegitimization is a belief frequently expressed by Palestinian children that justice can be achieved only through Israel's destruction.

It should be stressed that all these new Palestinian schoolbooks cited were written during the most optimistic periods of the peace process, before the violence began in September 2000. They are not a response to the war but an expression of dangerous ideology that has to be replaced if there will ever be peace. The ongoing attempts to defend these Palestinian Authority schoolbooks are tragic, as the Palestinian Authority is using these arguments to justify their curriculum and refusing to improve their books. The Palestinian Authority is planting the seeds of the next war in their youth. The defenders of Palestinian hate education are protecting those seeds of war.

1. Interesting replies to the "article"
Firstly, the "article" is authored by Itamar Marcus, Jerusalem director, Palestinian Media Watch, hardly an unbiased or objective observer.

1st Reply
For some two decades we have been told that Palestinian schoolchildren are being brainwashed to hate Israel in their textbooks. This assertion is repeated by Uri Dromi ("Don't wait for Palestinian democracy," Views, Dec. 18). Then, in the adjoining piece by Roger Avenstrup, we are told that analysis done by various reputable institutions show that "time and again, independently of each other, researchers find no incitement to hatred in the Palestinian textbooks." Is Avenstrup talking nonsense or Dromi repeating a widely accepted misinformation cliché?

Jamshid Anvar, Coppet, Switzerland

2nd Reply
Uri Dromi merely wants to demonize the Palestinians as if this mess is all their fault. The fact is that multiple generations of Palestinian children have been traumatized day after day by the violence wrought by escalating Israeli racism.

Anne Selden Annab, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania

3rd Reply
Roger Avenstrup blithely writes that the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information contends that the overall orientation of the Palestinian curriculum is "peaceful." Curiously enough, however, when one reads the IPCRI reports, a different message is given.

The IPCRI actually says: "Until now, the Palestinian Authority text books have not provided evidence that the Palestinian Authority has been implementing a policy of peace making." It goes on to say, "it is not difficult to come to the understanding that the main political theme imparted to the students is that Israel should not exist and that is essentially the Palestinian goal."

The IPCRI reports carefully state the opposite of what Avenstrup claims. The words are clear.

Rather than whitewash what is a woefully inadequate curriculum for peace, Avenstrup would do well to read the reports he quotes in greater detail.

Irwin J. Mansdorf, Raanana, Israel

4th Reply
It seems to me that officials in the American government and elsewhere who keep parroting the false charges that Palestinian children learn incitement from their textbooks are either ignorant of the facts, or repeat things, much like a parrot, without knowing what they mean.

Mike Odetalla, Canton, Michigan

It would seem the majority of replies are wise to the ways of Hasbara Inc. Polly want a cracker?

5. Don't blame me...
You provided the link where the majority of replies disagree with the unsubstantiated bullshit "article".

OTOH, I have provided an actual image (instead of a 500 word essay) which was truly stupid easy to find. Tell me Don, is that image an inciteful outrage?

Tel-Aviv is on that map.

The boxes on the lower right clearly indicate the WB and Gaza. It appears to be on the same page to me.

Now this map is from a "textbook"? I don't think so. Here is the caption:

A map of “Palestine” circulated by Hamas. Data regarding the Palestinian diaspora and the refugee camps current for 2000 appears on the right. This same map was seen hanging in the home of the Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin (CNN, 6 September 2003).

Methinks someones trying to pull a fast one here. This is not from a textbook. Nice try. Pants on fire.

I hope you have a shred of credibilty under the tree doc, cause you are in dire need.

On Edit: Don't bother answering the questions. Selective outrage as always.

10. *Yawn*
I see WB and Gaza. Anyone with a set of functioning eyes, not blinded by bias and hatred, could.

I don't see you admitting to falsely stating that the map in your post #6 is "like in every palestinian textbook....."

It is a blatant falsehood and you should be big enough to come clean. If you have the energy you can also comment on the map I have posted, which does not include any territorial markings, unlike the maps your are attempting to foist on this forum.

Flailing about is most uncoth. Be a man, admit you tried to pull a fast one and got caught. Then we can move on from this unfortunate lapse in judgement. Otherwise we may be looking at a need for a 12-step program.

18. Tell me about it....
what a coincidence, I was just going to post the same exact words to you .What are the odds of that happening.....

Notice how those 3rd grade maps ignores all those Israeli cities..tsk,tsk......almost like they don't even exist.

AND in the first map, Israel doesn't even exist....wishfull thinking I suppose.

prep.
Possessing the characteristics of; resembling closely; similar to.

In the typical manner of: It's not like you to take offense.
In the same way as: lived like royalty.
Inclined or disposed to: felt like running away.
As if the probability exists for: looks like a bad year for farmers.
Such as; for example: saved things like old newspapers and pieces of string.

(I know reading comprehension is tricky but you'll get the hang of it)

By the way, would you like wine with that crow?.

19. Oh well...
Now comes the weasel words. Your backpedaling is quite a sight to behold.

Like you didn't know what you were saying. But, it's exactly what is to be expected when ones pants are down around their ankles.

"I was just going to post the same exact words to you..."

Somehow I doubt as it would've involved original thought.

Be careful of slinging those weasel words, "almost like they don't even exist." Does that mean...oh, that's right, you don't answer questions...you just blindly stumble ahead in failed attempts to turn shit into shinola.

Anyhows, those weasel words can come back and bite you, like. But you probably, like, don't get it.

BTW, still no answer to any questions about the map I supplied, tsk, tsk. It's like denial taken to new heights.

Here's a tip: Go to Google, type in "12-step" and your address. Like, take care of yourself. I'm sure someone's, like, worried about you.

4. Hello Pot, my name is kettle...
Here is some tangible proof of inciting hatred (as defined by the author of the article). I like tangible evidence, then I don't have to trust (or not) every idiot with an axe to grind.

Now class, what is missing from this map?
