State readies opinion on Hague ruling

The champion of the new attitude in the Justice Ministry toward international law is Dr. Shavit Matias, who serves as deputy attorney general for International Affairs. Matias leads a radical line, with the total backing and encouragement of Mazuz, which holds that Israel must stop burying its head in the sand and comply with the requirements and rules of international law.

This position affects the professional positions of the Justice Ministry on a host of questions, including the legality of the location of the separation fence, the de jure recognition of the validity of the 4th Geneva Convention in the territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and Israel's legal status after disengagement.
