Senior Sharon aide Weisglass and senior PA officials meet

Breaking a freeze in diplomatic contacts, senior aide to the prime minister Dov Weisglass met Wednesday with Palestinian cabinet minister and senior negotiator Saeb Erekat and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' chief of staff Hassan Abu Libdeh, Army Radio reported.

The meeting, which followed a decision by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on Wednesday to lift a ban on diplomatic talks with the PA, is designed to pave the way for a potential meeting between Sharon and Abbas.

Erekat said that although the meeting did not produce a summit date, it was held in a very good atmosphere, the Associated Press reported.
