Hizbollah Flies Drone Over Northern Israel

TYRE, Lebanon (Reuters) - Lebanon's Hizbollah guerrillas flew an unmanned surveillance drone over northern Israel on Monday, the guerrilla group and the Israeli army said.

"In response to repeated and continuous enemy violations of Lebanese airspace, the surveillance plane Mersad 1 carried out a reconnaissance mission in the skies of occupied northern Palestine, flying over several Zionist colonies," a Hizbollah statement said.

<...>

Israeli security sources said the small aircraft flew for several minutes over Israeli territory and then returned to Lebanon before Israeli aircraft could intercept it.

"A short while ago, a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) flown by the Hizbollah terrorist organization flew over western Galilee in Israeli territory," an Israeli military spokeswoman said in Jerusalem.

Oy vey...that's not good. Why push buttons? Someone's got to start the compromising or peace will never exist.

4. Not the first time; after the first one I think it was Iran that admitted
aiding their jointly owned militia in the Levant.

5. And yet...
Had Israel does this, it would have been considered an act of aggression.

On edit: I felt my post seemed "snarky." It wasn't intended that way. I really am interested in something recent. Thanks.

9. I didn't think you were being snarky at all. From the above article
>>>Witnesses said Israeli warplanes broke the sound barrier over the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre and a nearby Palestinian refugee camp just after Hizbollah announced the flight.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which monitors the border between Israel and Lebanon, said it was checking the report. "There have been a few violations by drones and jets today," a UNIFIL spokesman said.<<<

10. Much appreciated.
From your example "Witnesses said Israeli warplanes broke the sound barrier over the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre and a nearby Palestinian refugee camp just after Hizbollah announced the flight," it appears the Israeli 'transgression' was in response to the drones.

I don't doubt there has been violations in the past. However, I feel that when others do it, it seems to be less of an "issue."

Israeli jets buzzed Assad palace as warning to Syria: reports

Israeli warplanes buzzed the palace of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad last week as a warning that Israel holds Damascus responsible for the recent flare-up on its northern border, reports said Sunday.

But Syrian sources told an Arabic daily that the reports were a "baseless" attempt by Israel to stoke tension in the region.

"We sent our warplanes over different parts of Syria and Lebanon as a warning sign," a senior Israeli defence official told the Yediot Aharonot daily.

The F-16 planes flew at a low altitude, evading Syrian air defence systems, and arrived back at base without incident, Maariv reported.

12. Perhaps not the best choice
However, this also appears to be another example of responding to an incident. Personally, I feel a 'nasty' phone call would accomplish much of the same. People deal with differences in all sorts of ways, many of them inappropriate. Things are so tenuous there, everything seems to provoke something.

13. "Perhaps not the best choice. . . "
That is some response. Apparently, not only was it recent, it was prior to the model airplane. In the future, it may be better not to respond than so obviously trying to save face.

14. saving face?
I have no need to do that here. If I err, then I am a big enough person to admit it. It was not a good choice for either group to do what they did. And for the prior incident, it wasn't a drone flown over the border, it was an accusation that Syria had already done something, and Israel was responding. It was that incident, in which I saying a less menacing response would have been better.

As for the future, I will respond to posts as I see fit, without regard to where other's feel I am trying to save face or not. It is irrelevant to how I post.

16. Thanks!
We have crossed posts before. We may not always agree, but you have always been polite and I respond well to that! :) Also, thanks for not viewing my initial post in the wrong light. I reread it (I do that most of the time), and I felt it was a little terse; thus the "edit."

See ya around!!

17. Sorry To Butt In here....but
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7464397/

According to the Associated Press an Israeli reconnaissance plane flew over southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa Valley earlier that morning.

IE

1) The Israeli's sent a reconassance plane over Lebanon. (To monitor Syrian forces departing)

2) Hezbollah sends a recon drone over Israel (Probably just to show they have balls)

3) Israeli planes 'buzz' a Lebanese port by hitting the speed of sound over the city.

IE

1) Israel can do whatever it wants
2) A few Arabs try and show they're strong when(because?) they are powerless
3) Israel retaliates on civilians either by creating fear or actually dropping bombs.

Sounds like it's right out of what the region has been going through for a while. Cycles. Round and round we go. Where we stop....
