Church urges action over Israel
Church urges action over Israel

Earlier in the week US and Canadian Churches were excluded

A top body in the Anglican Communion has urged its churches worldwide to put pressure on firms supporting Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories.

The Anglican Consultative Council also urged action against firms supporting violence against "innocent Israelis".

The council, meeting in Nottingham, passed the resolution unanimously.

Barry Marcus, an adviser to UK Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, said the move would do nothing to advance Palestinian statehood or Israeli security.

More definition is needed.... From what I've read in this forum there's more than enought disgusting and loathsome obsession to go around...it's all perspective...

7. Have you read the post, and the article or have you just seen the word
Israel and screamed anti-semitism. If you'd taken the time to observe what was proposed they were boycotting anyone killing innocent people from and on both sides. Open your eyes. Oh wait its easier not to. Just keep your intransigence and the world will be a better place.

12. Benny- I have read the various Posts and done some independent
reading.

Please check out my post http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=124&topic_id=94843&mesg_id=94850 in the forum.

It is an annotated reprint of the Unitarian-Universalist Association's "Toward Peace and Justice in the Middle East - 2002 Action of Immediate Witness" with a link, http://www.uua.org/actions/immediate/02peace_and_justice.html.

The bottom line is that If an organization has a reputation for even handedness, fairness, justice, and humanitarianism, as the Unitarian Universalist Association most definitely has, then the organization has the credibility advocate position that may not be 100% acceptable to both sides. But - if an organization has lost credibility ... (well, you fill in the rest).

Credibility is hard to gain, easy to lose, and even harder to regain.

2. Condescending of them
The Anglican Consultative Council also urged action against firms supporting violence against "innocent Israelis".

How about action against all firms supporting any and all violence against anybody. -- Or is that too "Universalist" for them?

9. I have basically parsed the Unitarian Universalist Position
There are parts of it I agree with - parts I disagree with - but I think it is a more realistic, ethical, and fair suggests.

1.
2. especially "Toward Peace and Justice In The Middle East"
3. , Hussein Ibish, Communications Director for the American - Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.

At this point the Unitarian-Universalists do not carry any advocates brief for either the Israelis or the Palestinians. As such, they still retain the credibility of an "honest broker."

10. Reply.
Yes, violence must stop. I think discussions concerning all sides of any conflict would help. How realistic this is I'm far from certain.

13. all attempts to bring peace are worthy
As far as a fascination with Israel goes, the billions in aid we give them makes it our business. Also, don't forget the little nickname of Israel "the Holy Land". This is the promised land for more than one religion, so of course we care.
