Explosion by West Bank settlement

There has been a large explosion near a Jewish settlement in northern West Bank, near the city of Nablus.

It was initially believed to be a car bomb, but the situation is not clear.

"I can confirm there was an explosion at Shavei Shomron a short while ago and we are checking the source of it," a military spokesman told AFP.

Other reports spoke of a car bomb exploding in the middle of the settlement five kilometres (three miles) north-west of Nablus.
