In Most Cases, Israel Thwarts Suicide Attacks Without a Shot
Very late on Friday night, Israeli military and counterintelligence forces intercepted a would-be suicide bomber on his way to Tel Aviv, wearing a suicide belt, and persuaded him to disrobe and surrender.

The Israelis have failed to stop suicide bombers many times. But they have succeeded far more often.

Among the differences in the situations faced by the two countries, perhaps the most significant is intelligence. Israel occupies the West Bank and its army and officials of the Shin Bet counterterrorism agency patrol it constantly. They have mapped every building and built a network of informants and collaborators. Many Israeli officers speak Arabic, and they often receive a warning before a bomber tries to attack.

Boaz Ganor, a counterterrorism expert at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya, an Israeli policy research center, said, "The key is intelligence, to know when they're coming."

The last option is offense, he said, because when confronted with a suicide bomber in a crowded area, "you have to act" before the bomber can detonate the explosive. The risk of "false positives," however, is enormous, he said, as in the British case.

1. Frankly, Israel offers the least attractive model of how to deal w/people
who are angry enough to blow themselves up.

Didn't that tactic emerge under their rule of the West Bank?:eyes:

3. Wikipedia: Suicide bombing
A suicide bombing is a bomb attack on people or property, committed by a person who knows the explosion will cause his or her own death in addition to the attack's primary purpose (see suicide, suicide weapons).

Suicide bombing is a kind of tactic planned and organized by extremely committed military or paramilitary groups. This tactic became widely known during the Second World War in the Pacific as U.S. ships were attacked by Japanese kamikaze pilots who caused the maximum damage by flying their aircraft into military targets. Since the 1980s, the low cost and high lethality of the tactic have made it a favorite with guerrilla, insurgent, and especially terrorist groups, notably in the Middle East and Sri Lanka. The Tamil Tigers were, as of 2000, "unequivocally the most effective and brutal terrorist organization ever to utilize suicide terrorism"<1>; since the Tigers signed a cease-fire in 2001, suicide bombings by Islamist terrorists, mostly in the Al-Aqsa Intifada and the Iraqi insurgency, have been the most frequent and cumulatively destructive. The September 11, 2001 Attack used hijacked airplanes to become the largest and most destructive individual suicide bombings.

8. What would be the best way then?
If it's not so attractive, as you say, what actions would you take if you could?

1. Give them the benefit of the doubt.
2. Ask them why they're in such a bad mood.
3. Offer to tighten the strap around their waist.
4. Fire warning shots in the air or...
5. Run like hell.

7. Tsk, tsk
Don, how dare you portray Israel in a positive light!?! Don't you know that Israel is responsible for 9-11, the bombs in Spain and England...and don't you fucking forget....responsible for the Tsunamis!

Are you so dense and jaded that you cannot see that all the ills of the world are because Israel came to exist?!?!

(PS...Don know this is :sarcasm:, did you?)
