BBC (Tuesday): Can Gaza's economy be revived?

From the BBC Online
Dated Tuesday August 16

Can Gaza's economy be revived?
By Steve Schifferes
BBC News economics reporter

The Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip could worsen economic conditions if key issues regarding trade barriers are not resolved.

Since the intifada began in 2000, the Palestinian economy has been in crisis.

1. The development of an entrepreneurial class in Gaza
(and the WB) may have been harmed by the divesting of Citi while (implicitly) retaining JP Morgan-Chase.

A good read would be Richard Florida's "The Rise of the Creative Class..." and "The Flight of the Creative Class ..."

2. The BBC always blames Israel...
...and never Palestinian terrorism.

If Hamas takes over and uses Gaza as a base to attack Israel, no, the economy cannot be revived.

If the PA assumes control but uses Gaza as a base to attack Israel, no, the economy cannot be revived.

If the PA assumes control and takes the first step at the outset of phase one of the roadmap, specifically ending terrorism, yes, Israel would not have to seal the border and the economy could be revived.

As another article was titled... it is all up to the Palestinians.

3. Gaza did just fine
before the Israelis, and will do so again after the Israelis.

4. If you think Gaza did "just fine"
prior to 1967, you might want to redo your research.
