Interesting informations found
with the help of google-cache. I never heard of this stuff.

A summary of articles, date: 9/12/01

http://66.102.11.104/search?q=cache:mTHIy2PIncEJ:newsandviews8.tripod.com/news/091201tv13.html+%2B%22wcvb-tv%22%2B%22boston%22%2B%22middle+eastern+men%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

A few cuts:

4 Middle Easternes arriving late in Boston and paying in cash

Sources have told WCVB-TV that Middle Eastern men who boarded the two planes bound for New York on Tuesday bought one-way tickets and paid in cash, and there may be a connection that could link the men to the USS Cole bombing.  WCVB's David Boeri reported Wednesday morning that sources say at least four suspects, described as Middle Eastern men, arrived late to the airport, purchased one-way tickets and paid in cash for them.  All three factors are security risk flags.

Airline crew tag found in suspicious car

The station also reported that investigators found an airline crew tag in or around a car located Tuesday night that was connected to the suspects.

Two terrorists taking a ferry from Maine to Boston

Sources also told WCVB that two of the five or six men arrived from Maine, taking the Yarmouth ferry, and that the white Mitsubishi Mirage the investigators have impounded had been traveling between Logan and Springfield, Mass., in recent days.

Atta's name on a passenger manifest

A manifest from one of the ill-fated jets included the name of a suspected bin Laden supporter. .... Agents discovered Atta's name along with others on the passenger manifests of planes involved in yesterday's terrorist attacks.

Student of Embry Riddle University was Bin Laden fan

Investigators have impounded the car of a student at Embry Riddle University, one of the nation's top aeronautic and avionic institutions.  That student's apartment is being searched and a picture of Osama Bin Laden was reportedly found in the student's vehicle.

1. Meanwhile, aboard Air Force One ....
Ari Fleischer addressed the press pool and revealed, among other things, that the First Twins were still at their respective schools.

Q Who is with him on the plane?

MR. FLEISCHER: Chief of Staff Card, Karl Rove, Dan Bartlett, myself, Gordon.

Q -- that's it?

MR. FLEISCHER: Yes, as I indicated, we?ve pared everything back so

that we can ?

Q And does the President feel hunted or in jeopardy? I mean, he is kind of trying to stay out of ?

MR. FLEISCHER: The President is looking forward to returning to Washington. He understands at a time like this, caution must be taken; and he wants to get to back to Washington.

Q What's he doing right now?

MR. FLEISCHER: He's talking to people on the phone from his cabin.

Q In his cabin?

MR. FLEISCHER: Yes.

Q Thank you for bringing us whatever you can, in terms of information on what he's doing.

Later, that same day....

Q Now, at this teleconference meeting with these -- his national security team, was he projected on a wide-screen TV or did someone videotape him? Was he alone? Can we get some more details on him?

MR. FLEISCHER: People could see each other, that's how these tele-conferences work.

Q Did he sit in a room before a single, solitary camera? Was he in that room alone or was he with his aides and advisors?

MR. FLEISCHER: No, there were other people in the room with him. And he was visible. And he could see the people who were talking to him from the White House.

Q They were ?

MR. FLEISCHER: It was two-way.

Q -- imposed on a video screen for him, at his location?

MR. FLEISCHER: It was two-way.

Q Thank you.

2. Asked and kinda sorta answered
September 12, 2001
Q Ari, will the President have to dip into Social Security surplus to get for these terrorist funds? And one unrelated question: how can you declare war against a nation when you don't know the nation involved?

MR. FLEISCHER: Well, that's one of the answers I gave earlier when I was asked that question --

Q You don't declare war against an individual, surely.

MR. FLEISCHER: And that's why I indicated that we would continue to work with the Congress on appropriate language at the appropriate time. But as the President just said, this is a nameless, faceless act at this point. And so that's where the President is on that.

September 13, 2001.
Q Ari, just one more. Can there be war without a formal national enemy?

MR. FLEISCHER: Well, as the President has indicated, this is a different type of enemy in the 21st century. The President said, this enemy is nameless; this enemy is faceless; this enemy has no specific borders. This enemy does not have airplanes sitting on tarmacs and it does not have ships that move from one port city to the next. It is a different kind of enemy. Having said that, the President also knows that our nation's military is capable of carrying out whatever mission is assigned to it to conquer any enemies.

3. American hijacker?
Q The comments that the President and his senior advisors have made about the increased security, the increased awareness that we will have to follow now have been careful to note that we don't want this country's freedoms to be eroded by the terrorist attack, we want to remain America. And, yet, the presence of five or four Middle East nationals on a domestic flight is exceptionally rare.

Are the rules different for non-Americans? Should that trigger now questions -- Middle East nationals on domestic flights in large numbers, should that trigger questions? And are non-Americans in this heightened sense, this more aware time, to undergo more close scrutiny than members of the Arab American community -- non-Americans to undergo more scrutiny than they did in the past?

MR. FLEISCHER: Well, I think when you look at the fact that there are lines, sometimes people are told to get to their flights four hours early, that way they can all go through the same security review, I think it's perfectly clear that these provisions apply to one and to all. As a matter of law enforcement, anybody who is believed to be violating the laws of the United States will be held accountable and responsible. And the laws target law-breakers.

Q -- whether we can be more focused on non-Americans in this time. I'm trying not to get to profiling; I'm trying not to get to the diminution of civil liberties. But is the scrutiny more on non-Americans than it can be on Americans?

MR. FLEISCHER: Well, I think the scrutiny is on those who violate the law. And whether that's in the form of immigration, whether it's in the form of anything else that would give the law enforcement community reason to believe that there are threats. But I remind you, again, that the precautions that have been put in place apply to one and to all.

And, again, the President -- also, there's a reminder here when he goes to the mosque this afternoon that it still is a time to remind all Americans about the role of civil justice in our society, about the role we all play as individuals in treating our neighbors fairly and in making no presumptions about guilt. And that's one of the reasons the President is going. He wants to stand shoulder to shoulder with the American Arab community and Muslims to say that they, too, are patriots and they, too, are victims of this attack.

Q But, Ari, one of the hijackers was an American.

MR. FLEISCHER: And I repeat my answer: law enforcement will target those who break the law.

One of the hijackers was an AMERICAN???
NONE of the hijackers was an Afghan.
NONE of the hijackers came from Falluja or anyplace in Iraq.

Which hijacker are they talking about
and for chrissakes why have we not bombed Peyton Place?

"for chrissakes why have we not bombed Peyton Place?"

For one thing, there's no oil there. Isn't Peyton Place in Conneticut?

5. My guess:
Amer "John" Kamfar

http://www.delawareonline.com/newsjournal/local/2001/09/16reconstructingt.html

As time has passed, the investigation has started to yield a wealth of details on some of the suspects. The FBI continues to search for Amer Mohammed Kamfar, 41, who apparently lived with hijacker Alomari in Vero Beach, Fla. Law enforcement sources said Kamfar -- wanted as a fugitive -- got a Social Security number in California in 1982, which would give him by far the longest U.S. pedigree of anyone named in the case.

http://www.nctimes.net/news/2001/20010916/54414.html

In addition to the three suspected hijackers with San Diego connections, the FBI is seeking a man who previously lived in Los Angeles.

Amer Kamfar, a flight engineer who listed a Saudi Airlines post office box as his address in FAA records, is not among the named hijackers.

At various times, however, he is listed as living at the same address in Vero Beach, Fla., as Abdul Alomari, one of the suspected hijackers aboard American Airlines Flight 11, which hit the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.

While living previously in California, Kamfar, 41, was issued a California driver's license and stayed at a 292-unit apartment building near Los Angeles International Airport, said a building manager who did not want her name used.

She said Kamfar lived in the building during the past few years but didn't have specific dates. The building's owners were cooperating with the FBI, she said.

http://www.waikatohockey.org.nz/sleepers.html

Amer Mohammed Kamfar - John to his neighbours - was a sleeper. He rented a stucco house at Vero Beach on the east coast of Florida with his wife and children, where locals say he shopped at Wal-Mart and ate a lot of pizza. But when his moment came, Kamfar climbed on board American Airlines Flight 11, hijacked the plane with his colleagues and plunged to his death in the World Trade Center.

In intelligence terms, these men were "sleepers" - agents who insert themselves into the local culture and lead apparently normal lives for years while awaiting orders.

Underneath their middle-class cover, some were keeping busy. When Kamfar wasn't munching pizza and scanning the Wal-Mart shelves, he apparently found time to visit the Philippines, home to the extremist Abu Sayyaf terrorist group, which has links with the chief suspect in last week's killings, Osama bin Laden. Fellow terrorist Saeed Alghamdi, who hijacked Flight 93 with Jarrah, went there at least 15 times as a tourist.

6. kamfar
Kamfar's name was on the manifest of one of the Logan planes (11 or 175).

How the FBI got from his name (when they found out he was alive) to the name and photo of someone else, who was NOT on the manifest (but is now one of the 19 hijackers) but using Kamfar's name is a mystery.

Could they have figured out who it "really" was by using the airport security cameras? Maybe, except after the FBI told us it was looking at footage from all 3 airports, the FBI then said no footage existed.

7. Amer Kamfar or Amer Taiybkamfar is Saudi Arabian.
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 12:54 AM by DulceDecorum
http://www.local10.com/news/956395/detail.html

Meanwhile, an official source at Saudi Airlines announced that Amer Kenfer, a Saudi aviation engineer whose name appeared on the list of passengers on board the United Airlines flight, en route from Boston to Los Angeles, is currently in Saudi Arabia.

Kenfer called Saudi Airlines from his home in Mecca once he heard his name announced as one of the passengers on the United flight, confirming that another passenger must have made use of the fact that foreigners in the U.S. are not asked to show their passports on domestic flights and had in this way used Kenfer's name.

The official Saudi source added that another Saudi suspect whose name was also included on the list of passengers who boarded the same United flight, Amir Bokhari - a Saudi Airlines pilot - had died two years ago during aviation training exercises.

8. Are you sure?

He was of Arab descent. But he got his Social Security Number in 1982, so he was the most "American" hijacker.

I'm just guessing, of course.

It's interesting, by the way, that he belonged to the "living hijackers", too. And his name was on one of the passenger lists (otherwise his complaints don't make sense). Why didn't the FBI publish his photo?

I think this is an intriguing case.
