Does anybody know where Robert Gates was on 9/11?
I'm reading 9/11 and American Empire and would really, really like to know where he was.

As the head of TX A&M, he did his best to quash 9/11 research there -- in particular, Morgan Reynolds who has a chapter called, "9/11, Texax A&M University and Heresy".

He wrote a paper that studied how the towers came down and Gates released this statement:

"The American people know what they saw with their own eyes on September 11, 2001. To suggest any kind of government conspiracy in the events of that day goes beyond the pale."

Interesting statement from a former CIA director, no?

1. here's a Kos diary re Gates, Bin Laden and the ISI;
Robert Gates Promoted and Financed Osama Bin Laden

Robert Gates made Osama Bin Laden what he is today. This is not exaggeration. By funding Osama Bin Laden's operations, training camps, weaponry and political influence from 1979 (even before Russia invaded Afghanistan), Robert Gates personally gave us our principal enemy in the "War on Terror".

More frighteningly, all of Robert Gates' support to Osama Bin Laden ran through Pakistan's ISI. ISI has been linked to training and funding the 9/11 bombers, the London bombers, the Madrid bombers, the Bali bombers and the Delhi bombers but is strangely immune from official Washington scrutiny.

I really wonder which side Robert Gates thinks he's on. With a 30 year history of pomoting and financing state and non-state terrorism, I doubt it is the side of the peace and prosperity of the American people and bringing our troops home safe.

"Most damning of all is the fact that Gates was one of the founders of al Qaeda, the CIA's Arab Legion which was assembled to attack the Soviets in Afghanistan. Gates is thus part of the infrastructure that produced the patsies of 9/11..."

FILIBUSTER AL QAEDA FOUNDER ROBERT GATES

The nomination of Robert Gates to be Secretary of Defense must be rejected. Gates is deeply implicated in three decades of crimes by the intelligence community. There is no reason to think he intends to begin the necessary rapid departure of US forces from Iraq. His nomination by Bush can only be read as a deliberate provocation directed against the new Democratic Congress. Will the Democrats fight back, or will they capitulate? The American people are watching the Democratic Senators carefully, and they are appalled by the self-congratulatory and clubby narcissism of the Senate at a time when US forces are facing encirclement and decimation in Iraq and Afghanistan. Senators must not only vote against Gates; they must stop the confirmation process with a filibuster. A look at Gates' sordid record shows why.

Robert Gates was an integral part of the gun-running, drug-running, and death squad murders lumped under the heading of the Iran-Contra scandal. Gates started in Iran-contra as a stooge of William Casey, and continued under Bush the elder.

5. Gates is a member of the Aspen Strategy Group
Aspen Strategy Group Member Robert M. Gates Tapped as President Bush's Secretary of Defense Nominee

Dr. Robert M. Gates, member of the Aspen Strategy Group and recipient of its 2005 Leadership Award, has been nominated by President Bush as the next U.S. Secretary of Defense. Gates took part in a public Aspen Institute panel discussion on American foreign policy alongside former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, Harvard's Joseph Nye, and former Senator Sam Nunn (D-GA), among others. At the time the president of Texas A&M University, Gates shared his opinions on US foreign policy since 9/11, the findings of the 9/11 Commission, and the US intelligence community, based on his previous experience as director of the CIA and as a member of the National Security Council.

"My views on what happened with the 9/11 Commission are shaped perhaps as much by the fact that I spent nine years under four different presidents on the National Security Council of the White House," said Gates. "So I viewed intelligence, for a long time, as a user of that intelligence at the White House, as well as a producer of it when I was at the CIA. And frankly, it was that experience that led me to be a fairly consistent critic of often how intelligence did its work. The fact is that US intelligence committed probably the two worst intelligence blunders since Pearl Harbor within a space of a very short time: (a) Failure to provide warning against September 11, and (b) Misinformation about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. So it's clear that there is a very specific need for a true structural change in the way that intelligence is managed."

6. Link to Robert Parry's "The Secret World of Robert Gates"
The Secret World of Robert Gates

by Robert Parry | Nov 9 2006 - 11:23pm

Robert Gates, George W. Bush's choice to replace Donald Rumsfeld as Defense Secretary, is a trusted figure within the Bush Family's inner circle, but there are lingering questions about whether Gates is a trustworthy public official.

The 63-year-old Gates has long faced accusations of collaborating with Islamic extremists in Iran, arming Saddam Hussein's dictatorship in Iraq, and politicizing U.S. intelligence to conform with the desires of policymakers - three key areas that relate to his future job.

Gates skated past some of these controversies during his 1991 confirmation hearings to be CIA director - and the current Bush administration is seeking to slip Gates through the congressional approval process again, this time by pressing for a quick confirmation by the end of the year, before the new Democratic-controlled Senate is seated.

7. Sounds like they found somebody even spookier than Rummy.
So now the CIA controls the executive branch, the Supreme Court, the military, and until recently, Congress.

8. Not only that, the Shadow Government is in Canada and Mexico
Edited on Sun Dec-17-06 02:58 AM by Contrite
Government documents released by a Freedom of Information Act request reveal the Bush administration is running a "shadow government" with Mexico and "Canada in which the U.S. is crafting a broad range of policy in conjunction with its neighbors to the north and south, asserts WND columnist and author

http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=16202

Jerome R. Corsi

The documents, a total of about 1,000 pages, are among the first to be released to Corsi through his FOIA request to the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP, which describes itself as an initiative "to increase security and to enhance prosperity among the three countries through greater cooperation."

"The documents clearly reveal that SPP, working within the U.S. Department of Commerce, is far advanced in putting together a new regional infrastructure, creating a 'shadow' trilateral bureaucracy with Mexico and Canada that is aggressively rewriting a wide range of U.S. administrative law, all without congressional oversight or public disclosure,"Corsi said.

Among the initial discoveries, said Corsi, is the existence of an internal Intranet website that never has been revealed to Congress or the public.

"This private internal website," he claims, "undoubtedly contains a wealth of documentation that the FOIA request has so far intentionally excluded."

So not only did Bush fail to tell Congress about the U.S. Shadow Government, as reported back in 2002 by the WaPo, the September 2006 article linked above divulges that the tentacles now reach out to the rest of North America--again, without disclosure to Congress or to the public. This is part of the New World Order plan to create the "North American Union" in place of the three sovereign nations.
