The military is spread too thin to respond in an emergency
I can't believe it's getting no interest.

General Richard Cody pretty much came out and said we have no capacity to respond if there is another crisis.

Are we safer with Bush? how can we be, Bush has tied our troops into an unnecessary and illegal war and left us without defenses or reserves.

This is a BIG story people, our butts are hanging out here and we are screwed if a "bad actor" pulls some crap

US forces have been stretched to the breaking point as a result of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, a top Pentagon official testified before a congressional committee today.

General Richard Cody told a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee that recent troop deployments have taken a toll on US readiness to deploy elsewhere, and even to replace troops currently deployed in combating US-led military efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Are we stretched thin with our active and reserve component forces right now? Absolutely," Cody, a four star general, told lawmakers at the hearing on US troop rotations.

1. This should be right at the top of Kerry's message in every "red" state

Bush and Cheney are destroying US military preparedness. They are abusing the men and women in the Reserves and National Guard. They have recklessly led us into an unnecessary war without adequately supplying the manpower and materiel needed to fight that war.

They are incompetent. They are dangerous. They must go!

3. consider that unless kerry plans to leave Iraq
his election will not change the basic problem. He has to plan to either pull US troops out of Iraq or increase the number of people serving in the armed forces.

4. let the American people decide
This election should be a debate about what our roll should be in Iraq, with an honest discussion of the costs in blood and money.

Do we want to continue to build permanent bases in Iraq, and commit 100,000 plus troops for years to come? Are we willing to re institute the draft to meet military manpower needs? Are we willing to pay the 100's of billions Iraq will cost in the future? How will we pay for it? How can we get an international force into Iraq, and take the target off our backs?

All of these questions have been dodged by the chicken hawks in the Bush administration, because they are afraid of how the American public will react, once they fully understand the utter shit pile Bush has pushed this country into, with both his hands and a stupid smirk on his face.

5. With Clinton, Saddam was contained. With aWol, WE are contained.
Thanks for fucking up our national security, Shrub.

He turned from the fifty-meter target to go after the three hundred-meter target. We all know what happens next.

GW2 deployment now is roughly what it has been for almost two years. During that time, I know of a unit that was the only one of its job description available for the whole world outside Iraq. They are now deploying to Iraq, and hopefully another one will rotate out, but I don't know. I do know of one that won't. It's possible that we could have zero backup. Brass hats and Pentagon sissyhawks testifying before Congress will flat out lie to your face about this situation.

aWol has made our national security dependent on the kindness of rogue nations.

:grr:

6. Follow the trail

More troop deployment, reservists being called up. The number of carriers put to sea, the largest deployment ever. Something is being planned (nukes) and it looks like North Korea or Iran are going to be in the mix. Not to be outdone, China will be waiting in the wings to invade Taiwan. Combine this with the latest Ridge alert and this summer may be one for the books.
