Controversial 9/11 film draws curious crowd

Director Mike Berger and writer Rebecca Cerese, a resident of Chapel Hill, spoke Tuesday night in Richard White Lecture Hall and presented their film, "Improbable Collapse," which presents a controversial take on the events of Sept. 11.

The documentary retraced the events of the attacks on the World Trade Center, analyzed evidence, interviewed experts and reviewed government records to present an argument pinning the collapse of the World Trade Center on the U.S. government.

Opening with footage of the Twin Towers' collapse, the film claimed that Americans' rights and freedoms have been curtailed by the government's policies stemming from the Sept. 11 attacks.

"The true duty of a patriot is to protect his country from its government," the movie stated, supporting the producers' message, which they discussed following the screening...

1. Ironic
It's amazing how few people know about the third World Trade Center building that collapsed, WTC-7," Campbell said.

Its that lack of understanding that has lead to so much suspicion.

8. I think if more people knew about WTC7 there would be more
not less. It is, after all, viewed as an "anomaly" in the set.

13. "Knowing" and understanding are not necessarily the same thing
You are right about the building being an "anomaly".

22. I don't agree to 'Know' in the global sense of the word
I only know what put forth is wrong. For instance, I know that when someone claims that the hole in the Pentagon would not fit a 757 that is incorrect.

I know that those who claim that the WTC was brought down by space based beam weapons, or mini nukes and not 767s is wrong. I know that those who claim that only explosives could have pulverized concrete are wrong. I know that those who claim it would be impossible for a 767 to have crashed in PA or that NORAD could have not shot down the aircraft are just outright WRONG.

I don't pretend to know the whole story.

"I think that these students disgraced our university.... I think they've insulted everyone who perished on that tragic day and the soldiers who died in the line of duty," said senior Stephen Miller, executive director of the Duke Conservative Union and a Chronicle columnist.

"The only way you could support such a claim is if you have a deep-seated hatred of America. They also have a right to deny the Holocaust and to say the Earth is flat," added Miller, who did not attend the screening. "In a free society, it's incumbent to hold people responsible for what they say."

3. Yes, the old Holocaust-denier comparison.
In fact the Holocaust-denier viewpoint was most popular while it was actually going on. The Holocaust only became a widely accepted fact after WWII. That makes the Official Theory pushers more equivalent to Holocaust-deniers (if, as I believe, they are covering up something which will be accepted as true in the future).

6. What really gets me
is that it is ok to say "ay-rab" in reference to those that subscribe to the Muslim religion here at DU. There is a DU member here that has done this for quite some time here in the dungeon.

What this has said to me is that I finally understand the defense of the OCT. And, then some.

7. It's amazing what some people can get away with, if they package it properly.
I've been reading a lot of the threads posted over on GD GD-politics that attempt to equate any one who offers either well thought out or emotional gut reaction criticism of Hillary Clinton with being what a small yet persistent group label as "Hillary haters."

Many of the techniques are straight out of the dungeon, or visa-versa.

4. This tactic is called "Appeal to Emotion"
and, it has been shown to effectively diffuse opposition to one's point of view. It is often used in this forum, as are other indentifiable tactics.

10. Many conservatives are fascists
Miller is probably one of those people that conflates soldiers with his great leader W.

The "Bush is well intentioned" frame. The "Bush is above the fray" frame. The "questioning our beloved leader during wartime is treason" frame.

11. What 'Improbable Collapse'?
What occurred to the WTC towers was more akin to 'Improbable Pulverisation'.

21. Yes but only of glaring factual errors.
I enjoy good debate like anyone, but some of this stuff put forth here can only arise from ignorance or out right psychosis.

I call it like I see it.

19. Everyone can see for themselves at the IC website...
http://improbablecollapse.com

Background to the film
http://www.improbablecollapse.com/screens2/index.html

Don't miss the WTC History page...
http://www.improbablecollapse.com/screens2/history.html

And the page on Collapse Theories
http://www.improbablecollapse.com/screens2/history2.html

I consider the latter two to be fine work on my part. And there's surely something in there to anger each and every one of the DU 9/11 Dungeon regular visitors. ;)
