Why were Bush and Cheney allowed to 'testify' together behind closed doors?
during the 9/11 commission hearings? so they could be sure to keep their stories straight?

that is, behind closed doors, off the record, no recordings, no transcripts, no cameras, no nothing.
you call that a testimony. What kind of a sham farce of an investigation was this??

1. There is no good reason
but I'm sure an apologist will be along soon to yammer on about risks to national security, blah, blah, blah...

2. Just another abuse of power by an administration
which refused to acknowledge any limits on the power of the executive branch.

5. He also said that when witnesses testify with each other
they can be played against each other. He stressed that a couple of times.

He also pointed out that on one particular point, the 9/11 Commission did not believe Bush and Cheney.

7. By the people questioning them.
I'm aware that you and other conspiracy theory advocates will be quote-mining Farmer's interview to hear what you want to hear, but since this activity of yours bears no semblance of constructing a plausible reality or truth whatsoever, your silly sneers are safely ignored.

8. Play them off one another
Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 12:41 AM by rollingrock
1) yeah, right. that must be a first in the history of the western world, then. maybe that's how they do it in opposite world, but here on earth you play them off one another by interviewing them separately, not together. its impossible to play them off if they know what the other one is saying, all they have to do is repeat what the other guy just said and/or simply nod in agreement.

2) but that's beside the point because it was not the commission's idea to interview them together.
it was CHENEY'S idea. the commission allowed Cheney to set all the conditions, including the right to refuse to answer any question he didn't like. no doubt Mr. Cheney feared it would be impossible for an idiot like Bush to keep their stories straight if interviewed by himself, so of course that's why Cheney did all the talking while Bush just sat there and stupidly nodded in agreement.

3) no transcript, no record of anything. that is not a testimony. it's a farce. the whole 9/11 commission hearing was a big show trial. that's the unanimous conclusion of the 9/11 family members who sat through it, not just mine.

11. That's what John Farmer said
Now if you want to keep quoting him about how the government lied and all, don't you need to find some other criteria for discounting things that he said other than your personal need to discredit or credit something he says?

16. I'm not sure if "show trial" was the term you were looking for.
Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 08:50 PM by Make7
The term show trial is a pejorative description of a type of highly public trial. The term was first recorded in the 1930s.[1] There is a strong connotation that the judicial authorities have already determined the guilt of the defendant and that the actual trial has as its only goal to present the accusation and the verdict to the public as an impressive example and as a warning. Show trials tend to be retributive rather than correctional justice.

Such trials can exhibit scant regard for the niceties of jurisprudence and even for the letter of the law. Defendants have little real opportunity to justify themselves: they have often signed statements under duress and/or suffered torture prior to appearing in the court-room.
