Happens all of the time. People join the Reserve and Guard because they do not want the deployments of active duty but still want to serve. Well, when they have deployments like the active duty, people bail. This is somthing that the Reserves have delt with before and will again.

FYI, when deployment schedules increase in the AD, people get out also. That has been an ongoing problem for the past 10 years. And it is just going to get worse. This will put more strain on the guard and Reserve in the short run till recruiting goals raise enough to make up.

6. Failure to plan for natural disasters should…

Be added to the list of idiotic things America does. With the NG in Iraq, there were only something like 300 National Guard left in the area of hurricane Isabella when it struck. We had to beg for civilian volunteers to cover the number of people needed to distribute emergency supplies. If there was another attack on America, or even just a big earthquake, we’re screwed.

Sure it is nice to have them around when the bad storms happen, but that is not thier primary mission. If there is another attack, the govt could suspend posse comatatas (sp?) during the crisis. If there are natural disasters (I live in Kansas), I guess that the sheriff will be doing a lot of overtime patroling the streets.
