...Thomas Keans and Lee Hamilton talk about the newly released warnings by intelligence sources to the FAA early in 2001. Four things that Keans and Hamilton said during the interview which has compromised their credibility:

A. When asked by Mathews why the report which the 9-11 commission had on this information only now has come out the commission heads answers were that the commission had released the report, but due to bureaucratic delays and just the way officials business works, the information was not declassified for the public until this week, nearly eight months after the commission gave its full report to the public and well after the presidential election. -- Commissioners Kean and Hamilton credibility compromised by blaming bureaucratic delays on something that the public needed to know about the events leading up to the 9-11 attacks.

B. Then Mathews asked why if the FAA had this information back in early 2001, well before the events and the intelligence clearly was suggesting that a suicidal terrorist high jacking of planes with spectacular explosions was eminent, why the FAA didn't prepare better, placed more sky marshals on planes tightened up security at domestic airports. -- Commissioners Kean and Hamilton credibility compromised by suggesting that no body was prepared because there was no past experience of such a thing happening here and the powers felt it was most likely to happen overseas anyway and not in the U.S.

C. Mathews then showed the video of the now famous press conference statement by Condi Rice where she stated that nobody could have foreseen these events and Chris makes his soft-hardball pitch that surely those who were at the head of the agencies should have been able to piece the intelligence together enough back before 9-11 attacks that some kind of alarm should have gone out. Commissioners Kean and Hamilton credibility compromised by claiming that there really was no one with the specific job to do such a thing at that time including Condi Rice whose job was National Security Advisor. Uhmmm.

D. Mathews then asked what the country has learned about terrorists threats are we in fact protected now and if so by whom and how. Thomas Keans made the statement that the best protection is by the passengers themselves and that if they suspect or see a threat to take matters into their own hands to stop it. Hamilton did not offer an alternative to that and even laughed along with Keans. -- Commissioners Kean and Hamilton credibility compromised by suggesting such an outrageous vigilante type solution as to have passengers take matters into their own hands to ensure their own safety.

I am now left with the impression that a bipartisan coverup has taken place on a massive scale and our government along with leaders in both parties are hiding critical facts about 9-11 from the American people and we will never be allowed to know what really happened. What do DUers think?

Officials told to 'back off' on Saudis before September 11

FBI and military intelligence officials in Washington say they were prevented for political reasons from carrying out full investigations into members of the Bin Laden family in the US before the terrorist attacks of September 11.

US intelligence agencies have come under criticism for their wholesale failure to predict the catastrophe at the World Trade Centre. But some are complaining that their hands were tied.

FBI documents shown on BBC Newsnight last night and obtained by the Guardian show that they had earlier sought to investigate two of Osama bin Laden's relatives in Washington and a Muslim organisation, the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), with which they were linked.

The FBI file, marked Secret and coded 199, which means a case involving national security, records that Abdullah bin Laden, who lived in Washington, had originally had a file opened on him "because of his relationship with the World Assembly of Muslim Youth - a suspected terrorist organisation".

WAMY members deny they have been involved with terrorist activities, and WAMY has not been placed on the latest list of terrorist organisations whose assets are being frozen.

32. Bush chose the 9/11 commission chairs.

Remember when he tried to stuff Kissinger down our throats? What a joke. That couldn't fly, but he came up with two that worked just as well.

Keans represented Delta Oil in his lobbying business....that has ties to bin Mahfouz, a major AQ financieer and bin Laden family business partner.

Hamilton honed his whitewashing skills in the BCCI Congressional investigations when he helped to shut down that any serious inquiry into ties between the international banking system and terrorists using this bank to finance their activities and corrupt politicians.

This administration tried its damndest to thrwart an investigation into 9/11. It delayed even considering an independent commission until the public demanded it. Then they tried to starve it of any investigatory funds ($3MM was what they budgeted). But Bush's real coup was getting to dictate who would chair the commission.

No question in my mind that Bush has something to hide. Criminal incompetence or active participation, it don't matter....he is guilty and should be impeached and tried for his actions/inactions leading up to, during, and after 9/11. 3000 people died that day and they deserve justice.

And, if he and the players in this administration are guilty, then we should be considering all of their actions since 9/11 in the prism of this crime.
