The Power of Nightmares
The Power of Nightmares: "Baby It's Cold Outside"

In the past our politicians offered us dreams of a better world. Now
they promise to protect us from nightmares. The most frightening of
these is the threat of an international terror network. But just as
the dreams were not true, neither are these nightmares.

In a new series, the Power of Nightmares explores how the idea that
we are threatened by a hidden and organised terrorist network is an
illusion.

It is a myth that has spread unquestioned through politics, the
security services and the international media. At the heart of the
story are two groups: the American neo-conservatives and the radical
Islamists. Both were idealists who were born out of the failure of
the liberal dream to build a better world.

These two groups have changed the world but not in the way either
intended. Together they created today's nightmare vision of an
organised terror network.

1. of course it's an illusion

People know that something's wrong, and they need a face to it.

But the face ain't what they think it is....it's in their backyard.

Maybe it's even in your neighborhood....LOL!

3. Borrrrriiinnngggg....Yawn
Explores the idea in a droning, stuffy, repetative, 1980's kind of way. One paragraph could sum up the whole program. We already know this stuff. Read a book!

4. Huh?
The Power of Nightmares is a superb series of films.

And yes, WE already know this stuff, but that's not who the films are for - they're for the people who have no idea about the history of the BFEE and Bin Forgotten.

5. I thought it had interesting footage...

of Dumsfeld telling the press how dangerous the Soviets were where in fact, the CIA couldn't corroborate this... And that was 25 years ago.

Overall, it's a good series. And IMHO, you could read 500 books and see 500 documentaries about Vietnam, for example, and still learn. There's always that little piece of info you hadn't heard before, or quite didn't know where it was coming from.
