Abramoff, SunCruz, M.Atta, 9/11, FBI........
any teeth in the story that M.Atta and some other 9/11 terrorists showed up on a SunCruz casino boat in FLA sometime before 9/11 and that the FBI confiscated the tapes of them on the boat? I heard this from somebody over the weekend. Any details? Any basis to believe this?

This is a great summary of a lot of things I've been reading the last few days. I wonder if we'll ever know the truth about it all.

5. No. Not at all.
All that has been proven is:
1. People with similar names to 5 of the hijackers were on a casino boat in Florida.
2. The FBI was interested, and asked for tapes to see if it was the same 5.

That proves absolutely nothing. As I said in the original thread, I have a friend and an uncle who both like to gamble every once in a while. My friend's name is Hassan Ahmed. He shares his name with one of the aliases of one of the hijackers. My uncle's name is Francis Patrick Kelly Jr. He shares his name with a known IRA terrorist, and as such is on a flight watchlist, despite his writing several times to ask to be taken off. Similarity of names is common. The most likely story is that the FBI investigated, found it wasn't the same guys, put the tapes away, and moved on to the next lead.

Attack: SunCruz Casinos turns over documents in terrorist probe

September 27, 2001

By VICKIE CHACHERE, Associated Press

TAMPA — SunCruz Casinos has turned over photographs and other documents to FBI investigators after employees said they recognized some of the men suspected in the terrorist attacks as customers.

Michael Hlavsa, chairman of the gambling cruise company, said Wednesday two or three men linked to the Sept. 11 hijackings may have been customers on a ship that sailed from Madeira Beach on Florida's gulf coast.

The cruise line also is turning over to the FBI video from a Port Canaveral cruise ship of a man that an employee says also resembled one of the suspected terrorists.

The FBI has not confirmed the men's identities and the cruise line is declining to specifically identify the men being investigated. An FBI spokeswoman declined comment.

12. But if it wasn't followed up on, I'm guessing it was a dead-end lead.
People see lots of things, especially in traumatic times. Sikhs were beaten up because they resembled muslims. People were seeing terrorists everywhere. It doesn't mean it actually existed. The most likely story is that it was a dead-end lead.

13. Not Casino workers
These are savvy and alert people who watch everything. They are trained to look out for stuff. If a number of employees on a gambling boat said they recognize someone, especially someone as odd looking as Atta, they know what they are talking about. Just because the government squashed the story is not surprising. The squashed the entire 9-11 investigation.

That perception is something of a sore point, Dongfang.

The FBI shut down Robert Wright's investigation of Yassin al Qadi, a suspected terrorist
financier who was one of the initial financiers of the Ptech software company.

The FBI shut down investigations of Ptech--frustrated agents told Indira Singh they
couldn't investigate it.

The FBI shut down Sibel Edmonds.

The FBI intimidated the members of Congress who were conducting the Joint Inquiry into
9/11.

The FBI ignored Ken Williams's warnings about terrorists in flight schools.

The FBI shut down Colleen Rowley's investigation of Moussaoui.

The FBI has silenced the agents who warned David Schippers about the upcoming
attacks in lower Manhattan.

The FBI confiscated the securicam tapes from the Pentagon gas station and from the
Sheraton hotel--tapes that should have shown flight 77.

The FBI has intimidated witnesses in CA or FL or both--I forget--who were neighbors of
the alleged hijackers.

Given this environment, the suggestion that "because something was not investigated,
therefore nothing was there" is comical.

25. More of same with links
Thanks to Minstrel Boy

From MB's previous post:

Some who’ve spoken up, and paid the price. I'd say that "incompetence theory" cannot explain what these people faced.

Michael Springman

WHO: Twenty-year State Department veteran, and former head of the visa bureau in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

CLAIM: He was repeatedly overruled by high-level State Department officials to issue visas to bin Laden recruits so they could receive training in the United States. Says this continued at least until the summer of 2001. (Notably, 15 of the 9/11 hijackers first entered the US through Jeddah.) Springman protested.

RESULT: Fired. Springman says he believes that the victims of 9/11 "may have been sacrificed in order to further wider US geopolitical objectives."

Sibel Edmonds

WHO: FBI translator

CLAIM: That a Turkish "spy ring" operated in the translation department with the apparent protection of FBI brass, falsifying intercepts containing explicit, actionable warnings of 9/11. That members of this ring were involved with the subjects of the intercepts. And that high-ranking officials asked her to falsify her translations and bribed her to keep quiet.

RESULT: Fired. After taking concerns to upper management, was dismissed with only one reason offered: "for the convenience of the government." Escorted from building by agents who said "We will be watching you and listening to you. If you dare to consult an attorney who is not approved by the FBI, or if you take this issue outside the FBI to the Senate, the next time I see you, it will be in jail." Told by John Ashcroft that he was invoking "State Secret Privilege and National Security" to keep what she knows from reaching the public.

Robert Wright

WHO: FBI special investigator

CLAIM: That FBI agents assigned to intelligence operations actually protect terrorists from investigation and prosecution. That the FBI shut down his probe into terrorist training camps, and he was removed from a money-laundering case that had a direct link to terrorism. Says the FBI "intentionally and repeatedly thwarted his attempts to launch a more comprehensive investigation to identify and neutralize terrorists."

RESULT: Suspended and ordered to remain silent. Subject of at least three internal FBI investigations. Has written a book that the FBI is not only refusing to allow publication, but is not permitting anyone to even see it.

Lt. Col. Steve Butler

WHO: Vice Chancellor for student affairs, Defense Language Institute in Monterey.

CLAIM: In a letter to the editor of a local paper, Butler wrote "Bush knew of the impending attacks on America. He did nothing to warn the American people because he needed this war on terrorism. What is...contemptible is the President of the United States not telling the American people what he knows for political gain." During Butler’s term as chancellor, 9/11 hijacker Saeed Alghamdi was enrolled at the Defense Language Institute.

RESULT: Disciplined, lost his position and threatened with court martial.

Indira Singh

WHO: "Risk architect" consultant to JP Morgan Chase.

CLAIM: That Ptech, a software company founded by a Saudi financier on the terrorist watch list, had troubling access to sensitive US institutions, which was apparently of no concern to the institutions involved or the FBI. For instance, a "person of interest" from Ptech “had a team in the basement of the FAA for two years” before 9/11. One of Ptech’s projects gained it access to "all information processes and issues that the FAA had with the National Airspace Systems Agency."

RESULT: Warnings went ignored by institutions and the FBI. Told to keep quiet. Subject to surveillance and threats.
http://www.madcowprod.com/index45.html

Colleen Rowley

WHO: FBI field agent, Minnesota office.

CLAIM: That FBI head office perversely thwarted the investigation of Zacarias Moussaoui, throwing up unusual roadblocks which prevented exposing the terrorist use of flight schools in the summer of 2001. That Dave Frasca of the Radical Fundamentalism Unit altered her report, rendering it impossible for the FBI to pursue the matter further.

RESULT: After 9/11, Frasca – the senior official who altered Rowley’s report and sat on the Minnesota office's request to investigate flight schools, even though he had received a similar request from the Phoenix office – is promoted and commended.

WHO: Former FBI head of antiterrorism.

CLAIM: That his investigations into al Qaeda in general and the Cole bombing in particular were subverted by senior officials, and the situation had become much worse under Bush. RESULT: Killed in the World Trade Center.

6. It was originally reported in the M$M a few days after the attack
That two men who were thought to be 9-11 hijackers were seen on Abramoff's Sun Cruz boat a week before the attack. Supposedly one of the men at least (possibly Atta) had been seen on the boat on a number of previous occasions. The FBI confiscated the videos and pictures taken on board the boat during the period these men had been seen on board.

But even it if is true...what does that prove? Unless there's someone saying they were guests of Abramoff or met with him, all it proves is that they went gambling. So what?

Jack Abramoff. Gee small world.

These gambling boats are totally unregulated by either the state of the feds. They are known to be major vehicles for laundering money and skimming cash. The only reason guys like Atta would be hanging around these boats would be for planning meetings and to pick up cash.

Atta didn't drink and/or gamble. Period.

I'll just keep an open mind on this and hope Abromoff makes it to trial...Jack has been found to be involved in all sorts of things.

From Wikipedia:

Osama Bin Laden, Mohamed Atta, and Abramoff

In 1995 Abramoff worked for the Global Council of Islamic Banks, whose chairman, Saleh Abdullah Kamel, was under investigation for alleged funding of terrorism, including Osama Bin Laden.

Prior to the events of September 11th, 2001 chief hijacker Mohamed Atta and several of the other 9/11 hijackers were reported to have made multiple visits to the SunCruz casino cruise ship off the Gulf coast in Florida. This has led some to speculate that Mohamed Atta was using the casino to launder money for al-Qaeda and that possibly Atta was involved in a scheme with Abramoff and the mob to smuggle heroin. To date none of these allegations has been confirmed or investigated.

(Edited to say: I once lived in Las Vegas. I cannot imagine a casino of any kind that doesn't have 24/7 video surveillance..."eye-in-the-sky"...cameras...etc. There might actually exist video of the hijackers on a SunCruz casino boat. Casinos like to keep their tapes for later reference, in case a pattern of theft or cheating needs to be established.

If such exists, the FBI has it. First stories hit the press about this on September 27th, 2001. The FBI must have known about the hijackers and SunCruz prior to the press reports. And if the video tapes of the specific times Atta and Co. were on the ships are missing, that's fishy too.)

17. I've read several books on Atta and Company...
Edited on Tue Jan-03-06 07:42 PM by Dunvegan
...I can't get to all my books until a little later.

I'll spend some time this evening gathering the information I've read that has been published on his observed habits and known patterns of behaviour.

There's a lot of different "chatter" out there about the hijackers, especially Atta. The "party-guy" stories don't actually fit, nor are they well sourced.

His European roommates in college in Germany tell a different tale about his religious orthodoxy being difficult to live with. Others also attest to Atta's strictness of affect.

Suffice it to say that "Welcome to Terrorland" is not the best source of hard intel on the 911 group. It is sensational, but doesn't jibe well with the rest of what we know about Atta, and may not be the best reference regarding Atta and his life.

You basically just have Amanda Keller's word about some rather bizarre behaviour...she tells a story that has Atta cartooned as the sterotypical "wild and crazy guy" who constantly drew attention to himself in loud silly ways, a person described by her as totally embarrasing to be around 24/7, always drunk, perputally drugged, and utterly out-of-control.

And, she even adds the little over the top coup de grace, that Atta's favorite food was pork...which seems like a nearly purposful "See? He's no religious fanatic" touch to the tale...all a 180 degree flip of a fable in contrast to what his life was like before he went underground as a terrorist operative.

Amanda, the self-styled "lingerie-model" (or stripper, or restaurant manager, depending who's ID'ing her) is the only one who describes Atta this way. And, she can say what she wants since the hijacker himself is not around to contradict her on her tabloid-esque stories.

21. Other sources.
They stayed at a popular resort hotel here, drank whiskey with Philippine bargirls, dined at a restaurant that specializes in Middle Eastern cuisine and visited at least one of the local flight schools.

Mr. Al-Shehhi, whom the FBI has identified as the pilot of United Airlines Flight 175 when it slammed into the trade center's south tower, threw a party with six or seven Arab friends at the Woodland Park Resort Hotel here in December, said a former waitress at the hotel, Gina Marcelo. "There were about seven people," she said. "They rented the open area by the swimming pool for 1,000 pesos. They drank Johnnie Walker Black Label whiskey and mineral water. They barbecued shrimp and onions. They came in big vehicles, and they had a lot of money. They all had girlfriends." She cited "one big mistake they made." Unlike most foreign visitors, "They never tipped," she said. "If they did, I would not remember them so well."

snip

Mr. Atta was by no means a recluse. "Many times I saw him let a girl go at the gate in the morning," she said. "It was always a different girl."

The accounts here tend to confirm reports from the United States that at least some of the accused hijackers had free-wheeling lifestyles full of sex and alcohol, and took precautions to keep their identities secret.

"Filipinos Recall Hijack Suspects Leading a High Life" by Don Kirk - International Herald Tribune, October 5, 2001.
http://www.iht.com/articles/2001/10/05/clark_ed3_.php

Samantha remembers the killer settling into the crushed red velvet chair, staring blankly up at her while she undulated her hips inches from his face.

snip

"Some big-man terrorist, huh?" Samantha said this week as she took a breather from the two-dozen lap dances she bestows daily upon the lonely at the Olympic Garden Topless Cabaret. "He spent about $20 for a quick dance and didn't tip more."

snip

But one thing seems clear. The self-styled warriors for Allah -- who believed their hijackings would earn them eager virgins in heaven -- engaged in some decidedly un-Islamic sampling of prohibited pleasures in America's reputed capital of moral corrosion.

snip

"True Muslims don't drink, don't gamble, don't go to strip clubs," said Dr. Osama Haikal, president of the board of directors of the Islamic Foundation of Nevada. "These things are a sin, just like what they did in New York and Washington is a sin."

If the hijackers copped a lap dance or even a watery scotch in most strict Islamic countries, they would be flogged, Haikal said -- and they would be executed for the horror they wrought. Dying doesn't mean they won't be held accountable.

"Agents of terror leave their mark on Sin City: Las Vegas workers recall the men they can't forget" by Kevin Fagan - San Francisco Chronicle, October 4, 2001
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2001/10/04/MN102970.DTL

The following story appears to have been scrubbed from the Sun-Sentinel database;

Three guys cavorting with lap dancers at the Pink Pony Nude Theater.

Two others knocking back glasses of Stolichnaya and rum and Coke at a fish joint in Hollywood the weekend before committing suicide and mass murder.

That might describe the behavior of several men who are suspects in Tuesday’s terrorist attack, but it is not a picture of devout Muslims, experts say. Let alone that of religious zealots in their final days on Earth.

Islam does not condone killing innocent people in the name of God. Nor can a devout Muslim drink booze or party at a strip club and expect to reach heaven, said Mahmoud Mustafa Ayoub, a professor at Temple University in Philadelphia.

The most basic tenets of the religion forbid alcohol and any sex outside marriage.

“It is incomprehensible that a person could drink and go to a strip bar one night, then kill themselves the next day in the name of Islam,” said Ayoub. “People who would kill themselves for their faith would come from very strict Islamic ideology. Something here does not add up.”

23. Patsy.
There are different, conflicting, versions of Lee Harvey Oswald, or Harvey Lee Oswald as well;

Armstrong began by recounting the story of one Gordon Lonsdale, who to all appearances was a Canadian living in England --- but who was exposed as a Russian spy in the early 1960s. Lonsdale, whose true name was Konan Molodi, "had fake birth certificates, fake passports, and dual identities ... was created by the Russian intelligence services. He was first 'handled' at age 9..."

Obviously, Armstrong began with this documented case to demonstrate there is a precedent for what we were about to hear: that the man known to history as Lee Harvey Oswald was, in fact, the same sort of creature of the Intelligence world as Gordon Lonsdale was. One critical difference is that "Lee Harvey Oswald" --- who I began referring to as "L/HO" in my notes --- may have been the product of American intelligence agencies.

If the KGB recruited young boys, Armstrong wondered, can there be any doubt that U.S. intelligence agencies ran similar operations? "In the early 1950s," he said, "an intelligence operation was underway that involved two teenage boys --- Lee Oswald from Fort Worth, and a Russian-speaking boy named Harvey Oswald from New York.

"Beginning in 1952, the boys lived parallel but separate lives --- often in the same city. The ultimate goal was to switch their identities and send Harvey Oswald into Russia, which is exactly what happened seven years later."

http://www.acorn.net/jfkplace/09/fp.back_issues/20th_Issue/oview2.html

Perhaps there is a reason why there 'seems' to be a devout Atta and a 'Spuds McKenzie' Atta, and why some of the "hijackers" turned up alive after 9/11. Classic 'Patsy' inconsistencies.

Consider the odds: two men named Mohamed Atta, total strangers with nothing to connect them, both arriving in Prague just as one, the Sept. 11 hijacker, was beginning his fateful journey to the United States.

According to documents in the files of the German federal police, the improbable scenario of "The Two Attas" is precisely what transpired in the spring of 2000, confusing investigators for months and laying the groundwork for a spurious claim that Atta later met with an Iraqi intelligence agent.

In the weeks after Sept. 11, 2001, Czech and German investigators labored under the misimpression that Atta the hijacker had arrived in Prague on a flight from Germany at the end of May 2000, been sent back to Germany the same day for lack of a Czech visa, and then reappeared early June 2 with his papers in order.

It turned out the Atta who arrived on May 31, 2000, was a Pakistani businessman. The one who arrived later was the Sept. 11 hijacker.

Red herrings, two Attas, 'Party-Hearty' Atta, turn the pictures of women to face the wall Atta, lap-dancing Atta...

The distinct and acrid smell of covert-operator secret identities is in the air.

More questions than answers.

24. Probably,
quite probably.

That comes to my head:

german television ARD is going to send a documentary tomorrow night, that "proves" evil Castro was behind the Kennedy assasination.
Made by Wilfried Huismann after 5 years of research. Our german media whores were full of this stuff the last days-
Oswald was in Mexico a few weeks before the assasination, and one former cubanian agent speaks now the "truth" before he'll die.

My thoughts on this:

Even if I can imagine that Castro had such a plan and some special agents who were sent to kill Kennedy- even given the fact that Castro eventually knew that it was Kennedy who wants a new relationship with him and he who dismissed OP Northwoods as stated in this documentary, because of a high level informant in the Kennedy admin, why to hell the US government refused an examination that lead to Cuba, why they left Cuba off the hook?

So, first they plan faulty attacks to blame Cuba for a war, and then they didn't use such an excellent point for their goals???

That is no plausible explanation.

The old team B tactical strategy fits nearly perfect to what really happened.
Knew Castros plan in advance, instrumentalize it, take patsies, let them go, some kind of LIHOP or MIHOP through american rogue elements, built an extra false flag operation like the involvement of the Mafia and afterwards you install a none-examination, et voilá, there you go.

with Atta et al in the States reported that they were hard
drinking, partying guys. Most who met them got the impression
they were involved in organized crime. The european reports
on Atta are completely different. The european Atta is very
quiet and intellectual - not any kind of extremist. The only
way I can resolve the two is by positing that these are two
different people.

19. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia that explains connection ...
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 01:41 PM by HamdenRice
Here is a paragraph from Wikipedia that is one possible explanation for the Abramoff-Atta connection:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Abramoff

<quote>

Saleh Kamel, Abramoff & money laundering
In 2002 Abramoff worked for the Global Council of Islamic Banks, whose chairman, Saleh Abdullah Kamel, was under investigation for allegedly funding terrorism and terrorists, including Osama Bin Laden. <19>

Prior to the events of September 11th, 2001 chief hijacker Mohamed Atta and several of the other 9/11 hijackers were reported to have made multiple visits to the SunCruz casino cruise ship off the Gulf coast in Florida. <20> This has led some to speculate that Mohamed Atta was using the casino to launder money for al-Qaeda and that possibly Atta was involved in a scheme with Abramoff and the mob to smuggle heroin. <21> To date none of these allegations has been confirmed or investigated.

<end quote>

Part of the problem with understanding these connections is that many people have accepted the 9/11 Commission view of the hijackers. If you accept that view -- they were Muslim fundamentalists, supported by al Queda with no state support other than that of the Taliban -- then contradictory information is inconsistent with that and people, like several posters here, reject it. It's cognitive dissonance.

But the 9/11 Commission report is demonstrably a coverup full of inaccuracies and simplifications.

It all comes down to whether you want to swallow the blue pill or the red pill.

If you want the blue pill, then there is no connection between Mohammed Atta and Jack Abramoff; the similiarity between the names of the hijackers and certain Arab men trained at US air force bases is a coincidence; the fact that Arab men who looked like the hijackers (according to employees) and had the same names were on Abramoff's boat is also just a coincidence.

If you want the red pill, well, start doing your research and be prepared to fall down a rabbit hole.

26. start doing your research and be prepared to fall down a rabbit hole.
And recognize the possibility of connections between these issues:

1. CIA financing of al Qaeda back in the mujahideen days

2. CIA involvement in the drug trade (Iran-Contra-Cocaine)

3. Presence of many former Iran-Contra figures in the present administration

4. Suicide of Gary Webb, author of book on CIA drug smuggling

5. Osama's meeting with CIA agent Larry Mitchell in the American Hospital in Dubai in 7/01

6. Boston TV station's report that following employees from the Ptech software company led
them to mob-controlled warehouses connected to the drug trade

7. Ptech was financed by (among others) a suspected terrorist financier, Yassin al Qadi

8. FBI agent Robert Wright's investigation of al Qadi was shut down in 1/01 at the orders
of the Bush Administration. Agent Wright has been forbidden to publish his book on the
subject.

9. Ptech had contracts with the White House, the FAA, and the military for sophisticated
software, sometimes used in aiding communication across different networks

10. According to Mike Ruppert, the illicit drug trade is worth $500 billion a year

11. Under Taliban, opium production was shut down in July of 2000. Shut down.

12. After the US invasion in 2001, opium production resumed, soon reaching record levels.
Afghanistan produces 75%-85% of the world's opium today.

13. Did I say Osama was allowed to get away?

14. Though we invaded Afghanistan because Taliban refused to turn over Osama (before we provided
proof of his guilt), Porter Goss said he has a good idea where Osama is today, but we won't
go after him because of "national sovereignty" issues. Huh?

15. Drug money is a great way to fund covert operations, terrorism, or both.
